CLOUD ⇨ PERMEABLE SURFACE/SOIL

What’s the Story?

PLOP! Now that was a long way down!! When water from earth’s atmosphere (precipitation) falls onto a permeable surface it will often be absorbed into the ground (kind of like a sponge!). This is important for agriculture, forests, wetlands, and to refill groundwater aquifers. Sometimes when precipitation is steady or very heavy, stormwater can runoff and cause erosion, carrying very important topsoil away and increasing the turbidity (muddyness) in nearby bodies of surface water. When precipitation accumulates on the ground, like snow, it can melt slowly and percolate into the soil, recharging the groundwater very well.
