The main motivation for this series is to create more awareness for research happening within our department. As such, the goal is to create an opportunity for research sharing by members of our department. Sub-goals include (but not limited to):
To boost profile of research conducted within the department
Creating a regular series for faculty to share their completed or work-in-progress research with each other in an informal environment
To identify potential collaborators for grant writing
To help potential graduate students (e.g., MSc, USRA, honours students) to learn about ongoing research and identify faculty to work with

This series is co-organized by:
Dr. Yun Lu: Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science. Her research interests include differential privacy, secure MPC, rational cryptography, and provable security. Currently, she is mainly focused on differential privacy. Some of her recent works in this area include privatizing text (with applications to privacy-preserving LLMs), privatizing BC Transit data, and the estimation/auditing of mechanism implementations.She is also actively involved with industry collaboration-based research on consensus and blockchain security under various (e.g., work, stake, reputation, rational) assumptions and various constraints/limitations.
Dr. Sowmya Somanath: Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science. Her research focuses on studying, designing, and developing novel software and hardware-based systems to foster creativity and happiness within specific domain contexts such as work and hobby activities. Some of her recent works in this area include technologies for supporting savouring positive experiences at work, designing creativity support tools to explicitly foster subjective wellbeing when engaged in computer-based tasks, and tangibles and wearables for different application areas. She co-leads the VIXI lab, which focuses broadly on Human-Computer Interaction and Information Visualization research, and leads the Creative Experiences Lab.
