Interactive Workshop with Jami Yazdani

Advocating for Ourselves: Optimizing Our Professional Journeys

When was the last time you advocated for yourself as an individual professional? While most information professionals have experience advocating for their libraries and organizations, less time and attention is paid to the often uncomfortable skill of advocating for ourselves. Personal advocacy is a critical skill that can help you optimize your professional journey and promote our profession. Participants will learn about the importance of personal advocacy for professional goals, and be introduced to techniques for articulating their strengths and value, and actionable strategies for advocacy and optimizing their careers.

Jami Yazdani of You Can Leadership will instruct us in activities to identify our strengths and develop our personal brand.

Keynote Session with Cordelia Anderson

Finding and Telling Stories of Impact

Telling the story of what a library does is hard. When asked, we often end up rattling off a list of the services we offer. What if, instead, we could tell a compelling story of impact? In this keynote you'll learn the components of a good story of impact, how to pair it with other information such as pictures and statistics, and how to overcome some of the internal barriers that prevent libraries from telling their stories.

Cordelia Anderson, founder and CEO of Cordelia Anderson Consulting will share her insight on strategies for library advocacy and telling our stories.
