Biography

Chi-Seng Lam received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Macau (UM), Macao, China in 2012. He completed Clare Hall Study Program in University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK in 2019.

From 2006 to 2009, he was an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer with UM, responsible for the environmental protection and energy saving projects. From 2009 to 2012, he simultaneously worked as a Laboratory Technician with UM and pursued his Ph.D. degree in part-time, and completed his Ph.D. degree in less than 3 years. In 2013, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China. He is currently an Associate Professor with the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI & Institute of Microelectronics, UM, and also with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, UM. He has co-authored or co-edited 4 books: Design and Control of Hybrid Active Power Filters (Springer, 2014), Parallel Power Electronics Filters in Three-phase Four-wire Systems - Principle, Control and Design (Springer, 2016), Tutorials in Circuits and Systems Selected Topics in Power, RF, and Mixed-Signal ICs (River Publishers, 2017) and Adaptive Hybrid Active Power Filters (Springer, 2019) and more than 120 technical journals and conference papers (>50 IEEE Transactions & IET journals). He holds 4 U.S. patents and 3 Chinese patents. His research interests include power converters, power quality compensators, renewable energy generation system, wireless power transfer, integrated power electronics controllers, power management integrated circuits, and FPGA/DSP based power electronics system.

Dr. Lam was a recipient or co-recipient of the IEEE PES Chapter Outstanding Engineer Award in 2016, IEEE Member Recruitment and Recovery Committee Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Performance in Macau Section in 2019, Best Track Paper Award of the 11th IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference in 2019, Best Paper Award of the IEEE International Conference on Integrated Circuits, Technologies and Applications in 2019, Merit Paper Award of the 3rd RIUPEEEC Conference in 2005, the Macao Science and Technology Invention Award (2nd Class and 3rd Class) and the Research and Development Award for Postgraduates (Ph.D.) in 2018, 2014 and 2012, respectively. He also received Macao Government Ph.D. Research Scholarship from 2009 to 2012 and the Macao Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarship from 2003 to 2005, as well as Award of Dean Honor List of UM, in 1999-2000, 2000-2001 2001-2002, 2002-2003 respectively. His supervised or advised students obtained more than 30 student academic, science & technology and competition awards.

Dr. Lam is an IEEE Senior Member. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, the IEEE Open Journal of the Industrial Electronics Society and the IEEE Access, a Guest Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs and the IET Power Electronics. He was a Lead Guest Editor of a Special Issue on “Advanced Power Electronic Converters and Power Quality Conditioning” for the Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Circuits and Systems. He served as a member of Organizing Committee or Technical Program Committee of many IEEE international conferences, including IECON 2020, IECON 2019, ASSCC 2019, APPEEC 2019, IECON 2018, IESES 2018, ASP-DAC 2016 and TENCON 2015. He was a tutorial speaker of The 2020 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and The 2019 11th IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference. He was the Vice-Chair of IEEE Macau Section from 2016 to 2020 and the Chair of IEEE Macau CAS Chapter from 2017 to 2018. He is currently the Founding Chair of IEEE Macau IES Chapter, the Vice-Chair of IEEE Macau PES & PELS Joint Chapter and the Power Quality Subcommittee Chair of the IEEE IES PETC.
