Atlanta man has been charged $100M for stolen identity theft and has been involved from 2018 up to 2023. A 43 year old and a 42 year old created online IRS accounts to steal SSN and addresses from tax professionals and taxpayers. They have been accused of filing more than 300 false tax returns. They then tried to use luxury goods to try and hide the stolen cash in which they sent stuff back to Nigeria like used cars and designer clothes. They now face charges for money laundering, mail fraud and identity theft, if they are found guilty, they could face a maximum of 20 years in prison and an additional 2 years for identity theft. In the end this was considered an identity theft problem and the people that were affected were the ones who thought that what they did was believable. The only way these can be prevented is by understanding what is fake and what is right, there will be mistakes made if its made by the wrong group of people and they also need to pay attention to it.

Nine different Mexican government agencies were hacked in an AI driven cyber campaign from December 2025 to mid-February 2026 and people are now telling those companies that it should be a wakeup call for the future. The small group used Anthropic Claude Code and OpenAI's GPT-4.1 to get in the agencies for both federal and state. 195 million identities and detailed tax records, 15.5M vehicle registry records, 295 civil records, 3.6 million property records, and other information that were leaked. The agencies used ChatGPT to help make sense of the stolen documents but even then, it will take months to recover from the attack and rebuilding the trust from the people could take years. So, the problem at hand here was hacking and millions of people were affected from this attack that could result into major damages for the individuals that potentially lost their documents and the agencies who had those document stolen into spiral. The only way to protect yourself from these attacks is difficult because if the agencies that have your personal information got hacked then there's nothing much you can do but hope that they reinforce their security.
