For this project, we learned about the positive and negative impacts that social media can have on ourselves and the world.
I learned about social media's big impact on the world and myself. That everyone at least has one form of social media at the type of their fingers. As well as I am not as addicted to social media as I originally thought but it is preventative.
After taking the Am I addicted to social media quiz, my results indicated that I am fairly reliant on social media. I could benefit by taking a few hours off. I spend roughly four-five hours through the day on social media alone. Which is fairly surprising; I must be mindlessly scrolling through the late hours of the day.
According to the Pew Research Center the top leading social media platforms in 2021 consist of YouTube (81%) and Facebook (69% ) of users. A majority of 18- to 29-year-olds say they use Instagram (71%) or Snapchat (65%), while roughly half say the same for TikTok according to The Pew Research Center .
To me, this is interesting because I only use about two out of the five platforms personally listed. I am not surprised, a lot of people I know have at least three or more platforms for various reasons. Personal use or professional life.
Depending on the type of media and how it is presented social media can have a positive or a negative meaning towards how people understand it. For example, becoming an influencer is the most desired job throughout the world and plays a big part in social media. Meanwhile having a school based career job isn't anymore because of the impact the media has. It is displaying all the glory and none of the guts making kids and young adults think its the fastest way to have a career without a backup in case they aren't as successful.
