Guidelines
General guidelines for preparing presentation slides
Use visuals (images and animations) as much as possible. However, do NOT use unnecessary animation such as letters in text appearing through an animation.
Use texts as less as possible.
Make the whole presentation in a story-telling fashion. To do so, place the slides in such a manner that they remain linked with both the previous and latter ones.
Guidelines for preparing presentation on Project Proposal
Present three things -
Problem definition: What are you doing?
The motivation part should address three things -
Why is the problem important, or what are the applications of the solution?
Why is this not covered by state-of-the art?
Why cannot we develop the solution using state-of-the art approaches through making small changes?
Your solution should subsume one or a combination of the following three ways -
Theoretical analysis
Simulation or real implementation
Empirical study
Your approach should be one of the following three alternatives -
Quantitative
Qualitative
Mixed-method
Guidelines for in-class study and presentation after the study
Study the assigned paper in a group having a moderator and a note-taker. The roles need to be switched over time, preferably in a round-robin fashion.
Allotted time for study and preparation: 30 minutes
Allotted time for studying the assigned paper individually: 15 minutes
Allotted time for group discussion: 10 minutes
Allotted time for note-taking (hand-written or ppt - no specific preference): 5 minutes
Allotted time for interactive group presentation of the notes: 15 minutes
In each class, 3-4 papers are expected to be studied and presented in the above manner.
During the presentation, the following things are expected to be presented -
Problem definition: What is the research problem?
Motivation: Why have the authors done the research?
Solution approach: How have the authors solved the problem? Be a bit detail on this.
Subsequent advancements (optional, however, may contain bonus): What are the subsequent research studies and how have they further advanced the solution of the problem?
Guidelines for preparing the Project Report
Follow the Latex template from here.
In your report, you must have the following sections (you may have more sections and may have several subsections under a section):
Abstract
Introduction (must point out - 1) Research questions, and 2) Novelty of your work in bullets)
Motivation behind the Work (must present - 1) Research context, and 2) Applications - of your work in this section)
Related Work
Proposed Methodology/ Analysis/Mechanism/ Approach (/ any other suitable similar terminology)
Evaluation (Must comprise results of simulation/implementation/analysis with proper elaboration and justification. You are encouraged to include snapshots portraying the evaluation. This part will carry the highest weight in your report.)
Discussion (You need to elaborate here - 1) How the findings of your work is different/inline/extending compared to the existing literature, 2) How the formulated research questions are answered through your work, and 3) Limitations of your work)
Conclusion and Future Work
