Alberto got a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (very similar to modern MSc in Mathematical and Phsycal Engineering) @ Pisa University, 1993; Ph.D. in Medical Computer Science @ Rome ‘La Sapienza’ University, 2000; 6 National Scientific Habilitations: Applied Physics as full professor, and as Associate Professor in: Theoretical Phsyics, Computer Science, Mathematical Physics, Bioengineering, Applied Physics.
He has founded and sicne then has been leading the CSCS Lab.
Previously, he has been at the ‘European Institute of Oncology’ as Group Leader (2009-2014), Researcher (2000-2008), and Postdoc (2000-2002); at the 'International Prevention Research Institute', Lyon, France, as 'Directeur de Recherche' (2014-2020); at the ‘Mathematics and Statistics Department’ of Strathclyde University as Visiting Professor (2017-2020); Senior Researtcher at Trieste University (2022-2025).
A pioneer of behavioral epidemiology of infectious diseases, his research interests lie at the interface between Physics of Complex Systems and Scientific Machine Learning.
He has published 163 (maybe more...) scientific papers, edited 5 books for Springer-Nature, edited 3 special issues of ISI indexed Journals, and directed 3 international conferences. His h-index (Scholar) is 49, and his h-10 index is 121.
He is in the Editorial Board of of many Q1 and Q2 international Journals.
