Part 1:
Theme 1 - Reasons for taking the course
A common theme I had with Shaz Maradya is that we both took the class to see what effect new media has had on our everyday lives. We both want to learn more about the interactions between computers and media.
Theme 2 - Similar social media platforms
After taking a look at Taj Bounds page, I noticed that we both share similar social media platforms. These include instagram, snapchat, and facebook. After looking at other peoples pages, many students in the course use similar social media platforms. The most common platforms that I share with students in the course are Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and TikTok. Some examples of this can be seen from Brian Chen, Cesar Garcia, and Emily Ha websites.
Theme 3 - Similar Audio Platforms
After taking a look at many pages, I realized that the most common platforms used for Audio are Apple Music, Spotify, and Youtube. Since there aren't many popular platforms to listen to music, many students use Apple Music and Spotify to listen to music. Many students across the class use Youtube for entertainment purposes. This is shown by Joseph Quismorio, Sindura Saraswathi, and Shaz Maradya websites.
Part 2:
After observing other student's websites, I can add some more platforms to my existing medias. For example, I didn't include WhatsApp and email for my messaging category. I was also missing some platforms for my social media and entertainment categories. I would also try subdivide the higher-level media into more specific medias. This can range from the type of music I listen to or what genre of movies/TV shows I prefer.
I realized that there were many different categories that I would like to add to my media hierarchy. This includes video games, education, and mobile games. I use these high-level medias in my everyday life and completely overlooked them. I can also add more examples to my existing medias to give more detail. Since there are so many forms of media used in our everyday life, it is very easy to overlook some of the most important ones.
