In regard to the current situation in Spain, we proudly introduce C-saver, a program saving the SEA from Cigarettes!
SDG 4: Quality education
SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation
SDG 14: Life below water
C-Saver, named after not only the first letter of Cigarette, but also the pronunciation of the word 'SEA'. It is created to raise awareness of the young generation about the importance of correctly disposing cigarettes and also to help clean and recycle the cigarette butts left over on beaches, preventing them from entering the sea or river.
The target participants in this program are high school and university students, but people from all ages are welcomed!
We hope to collaborate with high schools and organize campaigns raising concerns about pollution of chemicals in cigarettes to water bodies. Hands-on clean-up activities of the beaches around the school are encouraged either. C-Saver will provide guidance and materials needed throughout the clean-up or the campaign, and also provide a way for ambitious students towards contributing to the community to act on.
There will be an exchange system in which participants can exchange cigarette butts into products produced by recycling cigarette butts, for example umbrellas or shopping bags. And with that, participants participating in cleaning beaches not only gain happiness throughout their work for the environment, but also get useful products as a reward.
This program will mainly rely on funding and subsidy at the first stage. However, if the second stage is implemented, selling recycled products will be the main source of income.
There are several companies that are able to recycle cigarette butts into useful materials, however, none of them are located in Spain. In the first stage of the project, we hope to collaborate with one of these companies and depending on the outcome, we may launch a second stage in which we will try to bring this technology into Spain.
