! Hola ! Mi nombre es Covadonga Sánchez-Losada (C. Sánchez) y soy la maestra de español de sus hijos en 1.º y 2.º grado. Nací en México, donde terminé la carrera de Comunicación y Relaciones Públicas en la Universidad Latinoamericana de la Ciudad de México, D.F., carrera que ejercí durante varios años en empresas transnacionales.
He sido maestra por más de 25 años, de los cuales 20 han sido en SER-Niños y me siento realmente complacida por formar parte de esta comunidad, en la que se toma muy en serio la educación de los niños. He dado clases en PK-3, Primero y Segundo, en Tercero y Cuarto y en Quinto grado. Ver crecer a mis estudiantes y verlos florecer profesionalmente y en su vida personal, ha sido un privilegio que atesoro con orgullo. Overview:
First grade is a foundational year focused on building core skills in reading, writing, math, and social development. Students begin to transition from learning to read to reading to learn, and they start developing problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Core Subjects:
Language Arts:
Phonics, sight words, sentence writing, beginning grammar, reading comprehension, and listening skills. Students read both fiction and nonfiction texts.
Mathematics:
Addition and subtraction within 20, understanding place value, counting to 120, simple word problems, introduction to measurement, shapes, and basic time concepts.
Science:
Exploring plants, animals, weather, the five senses, and simple experiments to observe changes in the environment.
Social Studies:
Learning about communities, basic geography, American symbols and holidays, and how to be a responsible citizen.
Enrichment:
Art, music, physical education, and beginning technology skills are included weekly to support creativity and motor development.
Overview:
Second grade builds upon the skills learned in first grade, encouraging greater independence, deeper thinking, and stronger reading and math fluency. Students begin to explore more complex concepts and demonstrate greater responsibility for their learning.
Core Subjects:
Language Arts:
Enhanced reading fluency, comprehension strategies, paragraph writing, grammar, vocabulary development, and beginning research skills.
Mathematics:
Mastery of addition and subtraction up to 100, introduction to multiplication concepts, place value up to 1,000, time and money, basic data analysis, and two-step word problems.
Science:
Topics include life cycles, states of matter, weather patterns, ecosystems, and scientific inquiry through hands-on activities and observations.
Social Studies:
Focus on geography, map skills, early American history, community roles, and understanding different cultures and traditions.
Enrichment:
Continued development in art, music, physical education, library/media skills, and technology integration to support academic learning.
