Computers and technology in Dredd are extremely reliable. The drones accomplish their intended effect. The judges HUDs display everything properly. The surveillance systems, well surveil. There's even a scene where the incorrect user attempts to use a biocoded weapon, and it explodes in their hand. The technology in Dredd is shown to be reliable time and time again. The problem with ultra reliable technology, as discussed in our presentation and on other Topic pages, is the introduction of the human element.
Judge's weapons normally show this "ID OK" message.
The humans in Dredd frequently take advantage of each other and of technology for nefarious purposed. The most obvious example of this is when a member of the Ma-Ma Gang hacks into the surveillance network by simply calling another human operator and requesting it. The gang also seizes control of the security center of the building, and lock it down to prevent the Judges from calling for assistance. Another example is of course the exploding hand scene, where Anderson's weapon is being used against her. The gun's biometric scanner does not recognize the person pulling the trigger, and thus self destructs in awesome action movie fashion.
The technology in Dredd is extremely reliable, to the point that characters will use quirks of the system or manipulate humans to achieve their goals.
