The purpose of this interactive visualization is to provide the user a view of the known cases of the corona virus throughout the world. It also gives the user a broad view of the cases confirmed in each country as well as the confirmed deaths for each country. The site accomplishes this by providing the user with several interactive maps that allow the user to filter the map to get the information they desire. There are also graphs and lists that provide visuals for the user so they can see the data in a different manner.
Data:
The data for this interactive visualization is the confirmed cases for the Corona virus. The data can be filtered in several ways so the user can get the visualization they want.
The user can filter the data by country to see a visualization of the cases per day for the country.
The user can also get the rate at which the corona virus spread in a country and display it in a plot.
Data for the reported deaths of the virus per country is also available to the user. From there the user can filter the countries that they want to see the number of deaths for.
An interactive map that shows the number of reported cases for a country when clicked is also available for the user to use.
WHO Region
Confirmed Cases per Country in that region
Confirmed cases by Day
An interactive map showing the reported cases for a county in the United States is also available. The user can either click on the map to get the cases for a county or use the scroll-able list to filter the map for the counties they want to get the cases for.
State
Confirmed Cases per County in that state
Confirmed cases by Day
A list that shows in depth information about a country:
Confirmed Cases
New confirmed cases
Confirmed per Million
Deaths
New Reported Deaths
% Deaths
How was it collected:
The data was collected through multiple third party sources:
World Health Organization
State and Local agencies
Who:
The visualization was created for the public so that they are able to see and track the reported cases of the corona virus.
What questions do people want to ask?
A question the user might ask is how do we know how many are reported for the area they live in?
How can they find the answers with this tool?
A way they can find that answer if they live in the United States is by going to the "USA by County" tab and click on the state they live in. They then find the county they live in if they want a more precise answer.
Example would be if i wanted to know the confirmed cases in Cook County i would click on Illinois. I would then filter by Cook county and it would give me the area that is Cook county as well as the number of confirmed cases for that county.
What works?
Everything in the site works, from the interactive maps, to the lists they all work the way they should. Also the layout for the site makes it easy for the user to find the information they are looking for without having to dig deep to find it. Overall the way the site presents the data to the user is clean and not convoluted. What also works in the site is that it provides several different views of the same data, so if the user doesn't like how the data is presented a certain way that isn't really a problem.
What needs improvement?
The widget that is used for reported dates under Global Statistics takes a while to load. The improvement would be to improve the loading times on the widget. While the site is very simple and good at what its suppose to do, a different color scheme would do wonders for the aesthetic of the site.
