Tips & Suggestions
General
Minimize text (avoid full sentences)
Use visuals whenever possible
Avoid long lists (like this list)
Each slide conveys 1-2 big ideas
Use examples to highlight fundamental insights
Don’t make examples overly complicated
Extra details are nuisance variables (they confuse humans and LLMs alike!)
Convey key motivations clearly
(Note: presentation template has examples in the end!)
Champion
Focus on presenting key ideas using 2-3 main figures
Use illustrative examples!
Be wary of copying complex figures directly from paper
Simplify! (Easy thing is to hide parts of figure)
Present key experimental results (don't need to present every result)
Focus on distilling concepts into fundamental insights
Critic
Briefly summarize paper to transition to criticism
Emphasize the pieces that will be criticized
Focus on the biggest issues (no need to nitpick)
Oftentimes results don't jive with introduction (e.g., over-claiming)
Pioneer
Focus on the fundamental innovation
Why were proposed research ideas blocked before?
Does this paper unblock?
Use simple examples to highlight the blocking points
Entrepreneur
Same as Pioneer, but for practical applications & products
