Cryptic Carnage is a death metal band formed in 2012 in Mauritius, born out of guitarist Yashil Dreepaul and bassist Irving Vamben's mutual involvement in Tribus (Thrash band). Passionate about extreme music, horror and gore movies, they wanted to redefine their music and take it to the extreme - music that confronts, confounds, and eviscerates in equal measure. The members of the band have gained local recognition through their associated and previous influential metal acts, namely, Yashil Dreepaul in Haze, Tribus, Metropolis, Xenolith &Ā Feedback, Irving Vamben in Tribus & Revolt, Shakti Daby in D-Tuned & Black Illusion, and Sathyam Teeluckdharry in 6 Black Coffins.
Cryptic Carnage is locally known for powerful and energetic performances, a unique extreme genre and an irreprochable sound clarity. Over the years, they have played at and headlined several local metal concerts such as āNoiz revisitedā - Conservatoire Francois Miterrand (2015), āRocktoberā - Altitude Club (2015), āThe Biocide chapterā - Altitude Club (2017), āThe Reckoningā - Barcode (2019), āHail the Hornsā - Barcode (2019), "Underground Rock Festival" - Temple Of Rock (2022). They have also organized concerts to support the local metal scene: Uprising - Live for Metal (August 2016) and Winter Metal Mayhem (July 2018) at āNu Bazā (ex Altitude), in Ebene. The two concerts received support from metal heads all over the country.Ā
The band has been featured in the book āHeavy Metal Africa: Life, Passion, and Heavy Metal in the Forgotten Continentā after being interviewed by the author, Edward Banchs. His research on rock and metal in Africa has been featured in publications such as The Guardian, Metal Hammer, Decibel, Noisey-Vice, and O Globo. He lives in Pittsburgh, PA.
Cryptic Carnage has also been mentioned on the African rock/metal music website www.audioinferno.com in the articleāGetting in Tune with the African Metal Sceneā and local newspapers - āWeekend Scopeā and āLe Mauricienā.Ā
Their demo āCathartic Possessionā was launched on the 24th April 2020 and is available for streaming on Bandcamp and SoundCloud.Ā Ā
The band's debut album "Scriptures Of Torment" is now released and available for order.Ā
