Canine Research Unit

Perhaps more than ever before, people are sharing their lives and homes with non-humans as companions. In Canada, Statistica reports that there were about 8.9 million cats and 8.3 million dogs in 2024.

As animal behaviour and cognitive researchers in the Department of Psychology at Memorial University of Newfoundland, we believe that there is much to learn about the lives of companion animals, their welfare, and their interactions with people.

Our research mainly involves behavioural testing of dogs and cats in the spaces they live, work, and play- their homes and yards, local dog parks, as well as temporary living situations, such as animal shelters. When we are actively recruiting participants for a new study, we will announce it on our Facebook page "Canine Research Unit at Memorial University".
