When did you start running? Talk about your transition to the high school team and your first impressions.
I started running the summer before my freshman year. My first practice was at Millington, and I remember Chuck running with me and asking me so many questions trying to get to know me, but I could barely answer because I was so out of breath. I remember at first not liking the running part but I really liked the atmosphere of the team, so I kept coming back. I played soccer before I started running, and this was the first time I was on a team where everyone got along and had a positive attitude.
What was your most regrettable or embarrassing XC moment or race?
Last year we had a group chat with the team, graduated teammates, the coaches, and some parents. We had been talking in it, and I accidentally sent a string of like ten gibberish texts. I didn’t notice I did it until someone texted me asking what I meant to say. I was so embarrassed in the moment but later it just became a joke with a few people on the team.
What is your proudest XC accomplishment (this does not have to be a performance)?
Probably the Ragged Mountain Cup last year. I had been dealing with shin pain for about a month leading up to the race. I gave it everything I had even though I was in pain, because I didn’t want to let down the relay team I was on. Even though I didn’t have the best race I was proud that I finished it.
What are you looking forward to this season?
I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone on the team. It is going to be interesting to see what happens this season, and I think it will be important for us to have a strong team bond to help everyone stay motivated despite the changes to the season. I’m excited to do some of the fun team activities we normally do, so we can all get to know each other better.
What do you love about the team?
I love that everyone on the team is so positive and uplifting in any situation. I love joking around with everyone on the team because it keeps things fun even during the hardest workouts. I really appreciate the genuine support that everyone gives matter how well they just ran. This team is so fun to be around and they always brighten my day.
What has become one of your (non-running) pandemic obsessions?
Since I’m not as busy I have started latch hooking again. I started doing it a long time ago and really enjoyed it, but it's time consuming, and I was so busy with other things I forgot about it.
If you were to give advice to girls just joining the team or some of the younger runners, what would that be?
Stick with it. Running is one of the most rewarding things I’ve done and I have met some amazing people through it. At first it can be intimidating because you see what other people are doing and want to be with them, but if you stay with it eventually your pace and mileage will increase. Also, take the easy days easy and run them at a pace that is comfortable for you, so you can recover from the harder workouts.
