The Crown Street Camera Collective is a community-based group of photographers and filmmakers rooted in the heart of the Gorbals, Glasgow. We formed in 2023 as part of Street Level Photoworks’ “Gorbals Then & Now” initiative—an inspiring project celebrating the area’s rich visual history through workshops, events, and creative engagement.
This project, developed in collaboration with Street Level Photoworks, The Gorbals Library and the Marzaroli Collection, brought together residents of all ages to reflect on the past and reimagine the present through photography. Inspired by this experience, our group came together to continue the momentum—preserving and sharing the Gorbals’ evolving story through our own lenses.
Our collective includes a wide range of members, from complete beginners to experienced and professional photographers and filmmakers. What unites us is a shared passion for visual storytelling and community engagement. We aim to:
Encourage creativity and confidence through photography
Share skills and knowledge across experience levels
Document the people, culture, and everyday life of the Gorbals for future generations
Foster a welcoming, inclusive space for learning, collaboration, and expression
Whether you’re picking up a camera for the first time or have years of experience, we’d love for you to join us. The Crown Street Camera Collective is here to celebrate our community—past, present, and future—one photo at a time.
