I am trying to simulate a current source generated by capacitor discharge. From t0, the voltage decreases and at a certain point it hits 0. At this point the capacitor needs to be short circuited from the load (which in my case is the launcher). In practice it is done through a crowbar circuit (see the attached picture for a schematic of the circuit).

I realise this is sort of a 'necro' as the thread has been up for so long without reply, but in the unlikely event someone bumps in this thread looking for this error, it's simple: Your collision mesh has an element or part that is less than 0.5 inches thick. Make sure all part of your collision mesh are convex and aren't thinner than 0.5 inches in any direction. This error often happens when:

If you're getting this error then it usually means that there's a problem with your collision model. There are a few traps you can walk into. Most important is that your model has to be convex and you have to smooth the parts of your collision mesh one by one. I'll try to give you a start here.

This is a concave shape. For your collision model, you have to split it in multiple convex parts. You can do this in multiple ways. For example select the respective faces in edit mode, press "P", which will open the "Separate" menu and click on "Selection". I'm also pretty sure that your separated parts must not miss any faces or the error will still occur. So you go into edit mode again and select the edges which would build up the missing face. Press "F" to fill the hole. Antoher way would be that you just recreate the meshes from scratch.

This example collision model consists of three individual parts. Every single one of these three meshes is convex, which is important for you collision to be accurate. Now you have to apply smooth shading on these parts one by one. You simply do this by selecting one mesh, right click and choose "Shade Smooth".

Hopefully this will help you at least a little bit. You may run into additional problems. For example the error message will continue to be there if you have bad geometry like duplicated vertices in one of your meshes. Also your collision model must not include cloned meshes. If you need additional help, then just come back to this thread

Crowbar is a graphical frontend for studiomdl and a model decompiler for all GoldSrc and Source games. It can take an SMD and turn it into a working model, or it can take models and decompile them back into their meshes for use with a modeling package with SMD support. It also acts as a model debugger, letting you see what textures and other meshes a model requires.

Crowbar is highly configurable, with settings for exporting face flexes, LOD meshes, physics meshes, and QC files in decompiler mode. The compiler mode lets you set command-line options to be passed to studiomdl before compile. You can also link it to your preferred model viewer, and the program comes with preset configurations for over 85 GoldSrc and Source games and mods.

Crowbar is an actively maintained project. The latest version featured on this page is v0.67. If this is out-of-date, you can grab the newest version at the Crowbar Steam group and contact us to update the link.

Crowbar in this model is not built using IGBTs or ideal switches.

The cut-in and cut-out of crowbar circuit is modelled by

changing the reference voltages of rotor-side converter.

The model was created using MATLAB R2010a.

The control strategy is the most common decoupling

algorithm and MPPT, you can update it using your own strategy.

My only complaint is the bag it comes in .

It is a zipper lock bag but you need to remove a fair amount of the product before you'll be able to engage the zipper .

It's stuffed full when new .

I fit the bag into a plastic container ( Folgers coffee 43.5oz can ) with an inch of water at the bottom to ensure it doesn't dry out until I use enough to be able to close the bag .

Most likely keep it in that can regardless , just to be safe .

This stuff is comparable to Vallejo paints which everyone in the hobby already knows are tried and true. I honestly would not be able to tell the difference between the 2 brands looking at a finished model or trying to paint with it. The price is about the same but this includes slightly bigger bottles with a better design on the lid and seem to come with a plastic mixer ball already inside but its hard to tell for sure. This paint set also includes a paint thinner and cleaner for airbrushing. Its really hard to beat the price and value of this paint set for anyone wanting to have a quality paint job on something. I would say its near impossible.

Works reasonably well for the low cost. I found it boggs down with very little pressure in hardwood, so a light touch is required for small carvings. The diamond point does do a nice job etching on steel, however. I found I had good control of the etching process using it on steel tools.

I bought an accessory pack of two additional bits with the tool.

A major departure from foundationism, the method of hypothesis begins from conjecture rather than from known truth. Hence, according to foundationists, it could not be trusted. Yet, for several reasons, the method of hypothesis became the dominant general method of science after 1800 (Laudan 1981, ch. 11; Nickles 1987). To mention just two, hypotheses gave scientists extra premises from which to reason, pro tem. And since these could be highly theoretical premises, this method greatly extended the scope and depth of scientific work, especially into theoretical regions in which empirical domain knowledge was too sparse to get the foundational methods off the ground. As a result, many sciences could pass from a natural history phase to a mature theoretical phase, often one that became increasingly mathematical. I do not mean to suggest that theoretical hypotheses drove everything. Improved experimental design, instrumentation, and the social organization of research were also key to many advances.

Increasingly pragmatic, interventionist, and pluralist attitudes toward scientific research have led many scientists and some philosophical commentators to allow even for the joint use of incompatible models to model different aspects of a phenomenon or system (Winsberg 2010, 73). And the pragmatic realization that our research is conditioned by human interests, human goals, is a further dimension in the unavoidably anthropocentric cast of our science. In some fields, model-produced simulation increasingly replaces direct experimentation on nature.

The heuristic turn. Bounded rationality necessitates the need for heuristic shortcuts, so Simon also championed the importance of heuristic search, another departure from traditional logical requirements. The old view that heuristics (sometimes embedded in analogy or metaphor) are temporary shortcuts or scaffoldings that will eventually give way to fully constructed procedures is giving way to the view that heuristic thinking lies at the core of innovative research. If rapid innovation is what we want, heuristic fertility judgments are usually more productive than absolute truth claims. It is worth noting that the liberalizing methodological turns being described here were themselves heuristically motivated, in the sense that method B is considered more likely to be fruitful than method A.

The datasets below can be used to train fine-tuned models for crowbar detection. You can explore each dataset in your browser using Roboflow and export the dataset into one of many formats.

At the bottom of this page, we have guides on how to train a model using the crowbar datasets below.

This guide is mainly intended for people who want to convert their old models (usually .OBJ) to .MDL and don't really care about the additional features so it only covers simple model creation. It assumes that you're using .OBJ files, however this method will work for any kind of model, including those with bones.

N2 - Modern doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbines can ride through a symmetrical fault in the network by using a chopper protection on the direct current (DC) link without triggering a crowbar protection. A novel method to model the DC link system of such wind turbines as an equivalent resistance during symmetrical faults is presented in this paper. The method allows looking at the DFIG with chopper protection as to one with an equivalent crowbar protection and, hence, to apply to the former type of DFIG short-circuit calculation methods developed for a DFIG with crowbar protection. This may be a valid help in short-circuit calculations, for example, for protection settings. It also allows simulating for short-circuit studies a DFIG with chopper protection, often not available in a standard power system simulation software, by using an equivalent DFIG with crowbar protection, which is a standard model in power system simulation software. The results for the short-circuit current obtained through the proposed method are compared with simulations of a detailed model of a DFIG with chopper protection under different conditions, which showed good agreement. It is also shown that the DFIG with chopper protection delivers lower short-circuit current than a DFIG with standard crowbar protection, especially for low initial loading.
