MVACO is a welcoming orchestra for youth and adult string players of all skill levels from all towns. Our goal is to create a space where learning goes both ways, with mentorships shared between younger and older musicians. It is a friendly space that offers meaningful chances for everyone to play, whether you're an active musician or returning after years away to reconnect with the joy of music.
MVACO serves all ability levels and all ages of musicians to combine for 2 seasons a year. A fall and late winter season both lasting for 6 rehearsals and 1 concert. Youth and adult musicians from beginner to advanced, from all surrounding towns are invited to join. We do ask that brand new students have at least 6 months of playing with their school orchestra or private teacher.
MVACO is a non-profit under the Smith Baker Preservation Corporation, d.b.a. Lowell Center for the Arts . We rehearse in Westford MA and perform in Chelmsford MA.
The goal is to give another opportunity for currently active playing adults to play, and to encourage those adults who played in the past but are currently not playing to come enjoy their instrument again.
The difference with this all-level orchestra is for many pieces, the parts will be arranged to have a leveled tier. So, beginning violins may play the same part as beginning cellos. Intermediate violas may play the same as the intermediate cellos, and so forth. The goal would be then, as people advance; they would advance through the parts.
This not only helps the longevity of musicians to participate, but also can offer an experience for the lower strings to enjoy more melody opportunities. This may not be possible for every arrangement of music, but the goal would be to offer part of each concert program in this format.
