If you want a rugged, two-in-one hauling solution that transitions from your truck bed to the campsite floor without removing wheels, choose CROSSHIP Folding Hitch Cargo; if you need massive, weatherproof storage for gear on top of your vehicle when roof rails are absent or full, choose Mockins 30. These two products solve fundamentally different problems for drivers who need to move heavy loads, but they occupy opposite ends of the utility spectrum. One is a ground-based, hitch-mounted workhorse designed for versatility and durability in rough terrain, while the other is an aerial, soft-shell vault designed to maximize interior cabin space without requiring permanent roof rack hardware.
• CROSSHIP Folding Hitch Cargo: Its greatest strength is the unique 2-in-1 design allowing seamless transition between a trailer hitch carrier and a utility wagon with flat-free wheels; its trade-off is that it requires a Class III/IV 2-inch receiver and sits lower to the ground, limiting clearance for very tall items. This pick is for work truck owners who need a portable cart for yard work, camping setups, or moving heavy equipment from the tailgate to a job site.
• Mockins 30: Its biggest advantage is the massive 30 cubic feet of waterproof capacity that fits even vehicles without existing crossbars, utilizing a door-hook system for secure mounting; its trade-off is that it sits high on the roof, potentially affecting fuel economy and height clearance in garages. This pick is for families and travelers with sedans, SUVs, or trucks lacking roof racks who need to haul bulky luggage, tents, or seasonal gear without modifying their vehicle.
The CROSSHIP Folding Hitch Cargo Carrier stands out immediately because it refuses to be a single-purpose tool. Most hitch carriers sit rigidly behind your vehicle until you unload them, but this unit is engineered to become a mobile workstation once you arrive. The key feature driving this versatility is the set of fold-up wheels. You do not need to detach the basket from the hitch mount or remove the wheels to convert it into a utility cart. Once you reach your destination—whether that is a construction site, a campsite, or a backyard project area—you simply flip the handle up, drop the wheels, and roll the heavy load across uneven ground. This eliminates the back-breaking labor of carrying heavy items from the rear bumper to where they are actually needed.
For the work truck owner, the load capacity speaks directly to professional needs. The steel basket itself is powder-coated and rust-resistant, suggesting it can withstand the grime of outdoor work environments without degrading quickly. The inclusion of a hitch lock and tightener further signals that this product prioritizes security and stability, reducing the rattle and movement common in cheaper aftermarket accessories.
However, this product is not for everyone. If you live in an area with low garage clearances or frequently drive through car washes with tight automatic sensors, the fixed projection of the carrier might be a nuisance, even though it folds upward when empty. Furthermore, it strictly requires a Class III or IV 2-inch hitch receiver. If your vehicle only has a smaller Class II hitch or no hitch at all, this option is immediately off the table. It is also worth noting that the internal dimensions of 50.8 x 21 x 7 inches limit the height of what you can carry. While perfect for bags of soil, toolboxes, or folded chairs, you cannot stack tall items like ladders or long pipes vertically within the basket.

The Mockins 30 serves a completely different demographic, targeting those whose primary constraint is interior space rather than rear-end towing capacity. With a staggering 30 cubic feet of volume, this soft-shell rooftop bag is designed to swallow entire road trip wardrobes. The dimensions of 60 x 43 x 20 inches allow it to hold six to eight large suitcases, sleeping bags, or even a small tent without forcing passengers to squeeze into the front seat. For many North American drivers, particularly those with mid-size sedans or SUVs that lack factory-installed roof racks, finding a way to carry this much gear usually involves expensive aftermarket installations. The Mockins solves this by using a door-hook system and heavy-duty straps to anchor the bag securely to the vehicle frame, bypassing the need for permanent crossbars entirely.
Waterproofing is the second major pillar of this product's appeal. The carrier is constructed from 840D vinyl, a material known for abrasion resistance, and features welded seams alongside a waterproof zipper. Crucially, it includes a Velcro flap that covers the zipper line to block moisture and road spray. This attention to detail suggests that the bag is built to keep dry goods safe during unexpected downpours or long highway drives where wind-driven rain is constant. Unlike hard-shell carriers that can dent or scratch easily upon impact, the soft-shell design absorbs minor impacts, and the included anti-slip mat protects the vehicle's paint from scratches caused by friction during transit.
This product is ideal for the traveler who values flexibility over rugged utility. If you have a sedan or a truck with a bare roof, this is likely your best bet for expanding cargo space. The aerodynamic footprint helps minimize wind drag compared to boxy hard cases, and the low profile keeps the center of gravity slightly lower than taller alternatives. However, there are physical limitations to consider. Because it mounts on the roof, it raises the overall height of your vehicle, meaning you will need to be mindful of low-hanging branches, garage doors, and automated car washes. Additionally, while the straps are described as high-tension ratchets, the reliance on tension systems means you must double-check the tightness before every long trip to ensure the load does not shift.
• Best for Work Trucks & Job Sites → CROSSHIP Folding Hitch Cargo. The ability to roll the cart away from the truck and the 400-pound hitch rating make it superior for moving heavy, dirty, or industrial loads.
• Best for Road Trips & Family Travel → Mockins 30. The 30 cubic feet of soft storage offers far more volume for luggage and camping gear than the rigid basket of the hitch carrier.
• Best for Vehicles Without Roof Racks → Mockins 30. The door-hook installation system allows you to add roof storage to cars that never had crossbars installed, whereas the CROSSHIP requires a specific 2-inch receiver.
• Best for Rough Terrain Mobility → CROSSHIP Folding Hitch Cargo. The flat-free wheels and 2-in-1 design allow you to traverse grass, gravel, or mud without carrying heavy items manually.
• Best Weather Protection for Delicate Gear → Mockins 30. The 840D vinyl, welded seams, and Velcro-covered zippers provide a dedicated waterproof envelope for electronics and clothing.
• Best Space Efficiency When Not in Use → CROSSHIP Folding Hitch Cargo. The basket folds upward against the rear of the vehicle, significantly reducing the rearward projection compared to a permanently mounted roof bag.
• Best for High-Clearance Hauling → Mockins 30. While the roof bag raises the vehicle height, it keeps the ground clearance of the truck or SUV intact, whereas the hitch carrier hangs lower and is subject to bumping on steep driveways.
• Best for Security and Stability → Both excel differently; CROSSHIP uses a lock and tightener for the hitch connection, while Mockins uses a combination of straps and an anti-slip mat for roof stability.
After analyzing the specifications and intended use cases, I would buy the CROSSHIP Folding Hitch Cargo for my own work truck. The 2-in-1 capability transforms a simple accessory into a genuine productivity tool, saving me time and physical effort when unloading heavy supplies. While the Mockins 30 is an excellent solution for travel, the utility of having a cart that can follow me from the truck to the job site is a feature I value more highly for daily use. The sturdy steel construction and flat-free wheels suggest a longevity that justifies the investment for someone who relies on their vehicle for heavy lifting.
It will not fit smaller receivers or vehicles without a hitch.
