Light-sheet microscopy community is already tired of too many acronyms so a new one was not an option. Manish loves birds and Crossbill is a lovely bird with an unconventional beak shape matching closely to our light-sheet configuration.
Yes and no! SOPi is a tilt invariant lateral scanning architecture invented by us which has been widely used by many others. Crossbill uses the same SOPi scan engine but a new design plus independent control and automation software for the microscope. We see Crossbill as a complete microscopy platform and SOPi as the heart of it.
This is the first demonstration with all three immersion objectives which help create compact footprint microscopy system which is lighter on users pocket and better in terms of the system resolution. A win win situation where users can easily get started with single objective light-sheet microscopy and decide if this is a good solution for their application.
Yes, a few more things are: a systematic hassle-free alignment, a beautiful GUI for control and automation and many suggestive upgrades based on user's budget and application.
