Importance of Environmental Sciences and Environmental Education
The Earth is our home, and our environment(s) play an important role in healthy living and in the existence of all life on our planet. We are dependent on the Earth for our food, air, water, and other needs and resources. As such, it is of utmost importance that we work collectively to save and protect our planet.
Environmental Education helps us:
Gain awareness and sensitivity to the environment and its challenges
Gain knowledge and understanding of the environment and its challenges
Learn about attitudes of concern for the environment and motivation to improve or maintain environmental quality
Learn skills to identify and help resolve environmental challenges
Participate in activities that lead to the resolution of environmental challenges
Learn more about the EPA and what they say about the environment.
ABOUT DR. TORRIE CROPPS
I am currently a Research Scientist in the School of Natural Sciences & Mathematics. I conduct research and help develop educational materials for faculty and staff on equitable hiring. My research outside of UTD's SNS&M focuses on 1) how graduate student socialization, mentoring, advising contribute to career and leadership development; 2) inclusive learning environments and classroom community; and 3) leadership development in Black communities.
I like purple, pizza, summer, singing, Marvel movies/TV, and supporting Historically Black Colleges/Universities (Aggie Pride!).
