Privacy Policy

Thank you for using "Crochet & Knitting" ("the App"), a mobile application for iOS and Android that helps you learn crochet and knitting through guided lessons, a curated pattern library, an AI chat assistant, a stitch/yarn/pattern scanner and a project row counter. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the App.
1. Information We Collect
The App does not require account registration and we do not maintain a customer database of personally identifiable information. Depending on how you use the App, the following information may be processed:
- Photos and images you choose to capture with the camera or select from your photo library when using the Stitch, Yarn or Pattern Scanner feature. These images are sent to our AI processing backend for recognition and are not retained beyond the time needed to return a result.
- PDF documents you choose to import when adding a pattern from a file. The text content of the PDF may be sent to our AI parser to extract pattern steps. The original file is not retained on our servers.
- Text messages you type into the in-app AI chat. The messages, together with the surrounding context (current pattern, lesson or project), are sent to our AI chat backend in order to generate a response.
- Subscription state, an anonymous device identifier and basic paywall analytics events (paywall views, purchase outcomes) handled by Adapty, the subscription platform we use to validate and restore your purchases.
- Standard device information such as operating system version, device model and preferred language. This information is collected automatically by third-party SDKs and is used in an aggregated, non-identifiable form.
The App does not include any third-party advertising SDK and does not track you across other applications or websites for advertising purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use information only to provide and improve the App's features. Specifically, we use it to:
- Identify stitches, yarn types and full crochet or knitting patterns from the photos and PDFs you submit to the Scanner.
- Generate answers in the AI chat to your questions about lessons, patterns and your active projects.
- Display the lesson library, the pattern library and your saved projects, and to keep your row counter and lesson progress in sync on your device.
- Validate, restore and manage your premium subscription and adjust which features are available to you based on your subscription state.
- Detect technical issues, monitor app stability and improve usability through anonymous analytics events.
3. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services. Each of them collects and processes data only as described in their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review:
- Adapty — subscription analytics, paywall delivery and purchase validation. Adapty receives an anonymous identifier, App Store or Google Play purchase receipts and paywall interaction events.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — handle the actual subscription purchase. We never see or store your payment method.
- Expo (Expo Application Services) — the runtime platform used to build and update the App. Anonymous device data is processed for crash reporting and over-the-air updates.
- A Railway-hosted AI proxy that forwards requests to DeepSeek for the chat assistant and to Google Gemini 2.5 Flash for image and pattern recognition. The proxy passes through the text or image you submit, returns the AI response, and does not store the payload.
4. Data Storage
Personal content you create in the App — including pattern favorites, lesson progress, project list, row counter state, AI chat history and scanner history — is stored exclusively on your device using a local MMKV storage container. It does not leave your device unless explicitly required by a feature (for example, when you submit a photo to the Scanner or a message to the AI chat). You can remove all of this data at any time by deleting the App from your device.
5. Data Security
We follow reasonable industry practices to protect the data the App handles. All traffic between the App and our backend services is transmitted over HTTPS. Subscription receipts and identifiers exchanged with Adapty are protected by Adapty's own platform-level encryption. Despite our efforts, no method of transmission over the internet is fully secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with such information, please contact us so that we can remove it.
7. Your Rights
You may request information about which data the App or its third-party services hold about you, request its deletion, or withdraw your consent to its processing at any time by writing to zia.omar.84@icloud.com. Because the App does not maintain a centralized user account, most user data is already under your direct control on your device and can be removed by deleting the App.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or in applicable regulations. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page will indicate when the latest version took effect. Continued use of the App after a change becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
