Reflections from the Launch of the Critical Legal Pedagogies of Race and Empire Network

The Critical Legal Pedagogies of Race and Empire (CLPRE) Network invites submissions for a special series of blog posts reflecting on the ideas, discussions, and possibilities emerging from our launch event.

We are seeking short, accessible blog posts from launch event speakers, participants, attendees, network members and anyone interested in the networks' areas of interest. Contributions may reflect on presentations, workshops, conversations, or broader themes arising from the event/network’s aims. Through this series, we hope to capture and extend the rich conversations generated by the launch event, create a record of emerging scholarship and practice, and stimulate ongoing dialogue about the future of critical legal pedagogies of race and empire.

Suggested Themes

Posts might address:

• The current landscape of critical legal pedagogies of race and empire.

• Anti-colonial and anti-racist approaches to teaching law.

• Reflections on curriculum design and transformation.

• Practical teaching strategies and classroom interventions – nontraditional suggestions such as the use of music or film are very welcome.

• Challenges and opportunities in implementing critical pedagogies.

• Building communities of practice across institutions and jurisdictions.

• Future directions for scholarship, teaching, and collaboration in this field.

Submission Requirements

• Length: 500-1,500 words

• Format: Word document (.docx)

• Referencing: Please keep references to a minimum and include hyperlinks where appropriate.

• Author Information: Include a short biography (50-100 words) and institutional affiliation.

• Publication: Posts will be published on the CLT and CLPRE websites simultaneously and on a rolling basis following editorial review.

We are delighted to invite members of the legal education community to the launch of the Critical Legal Pedagogies of Race and Empire Network, a new interdisciplinary initiative dedicated to fostering dialogue, collaboration, and innovation around the teaching of race, empire, and colonialism in legal education. The launch event will take place on Monday 14 September 2026, from 2.00–5.00 pm, in the Moot Court at the University of Bristol Law School, with an online attendance option available.
