Aisling Davitt is Senior Speech and Language Therapist in Critical Care, Surgery and ENT in Tallaght University Hospital. She completed a Post-graduate diploma in Speech and Language Therapy fro Canterbury Christchurch University. She has extensive clinical experience in dysphagia and communication assessment and management of patients in the acute hospital setting, as well as experience in tracheotomy weaning in the critical care population. Aisling had obtained advanced training in diagnostic tools including Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) and Videofluoroscopy. Aisling is a trained endoscopist and has completed videostroboscopy and analysis training for voice assessment. As part of her role she also assesses and manages patients with voice disorders in an outpatient ENT clinic.
Christian Garcia has 19 years’ post-qualification experience practicing as an Occupational Therapist at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and Tallaght University Hospital. Christian specialises in acute care and stroke rehabilitation. He was appointed the clinical specialist occupational therapist in critical care in 2022 following his work in the Acute Stroke Services and the Intensive Care Unit and in TUH, where he has practiced for the last 16 years.
Christian completed his Master’s in research at the University of Limerick and his findings were published in 2022 in an international journal. He has a keen interest in the early assessment and integration of occupation together with the assessment and rehabilitation of cognition in critical care. Christian is the chair of the AOTI Neurology Advisory Group and an active member of the Critical Care Occupational Therapist Community of Therapist.
Dr. Ryberg is a Principal Specialist Clinical Psychologist in Critical Care here in Tallaght University Hospital, and was the first Psychologist permanently appointed to work as part of the critical care team in Ireland. She took up her post in March 2021, and has been developing the role in service of better outcomes for patients, families and staff, since then. Dr. Ryberg has been involved in a variety of research projects in critical care in collaboration with various academic partners, including post-intensive care follow-up of our ICU Covid patients with our colleagues in TCD, and the experience of end-of-life care and bereavement in critical care settings with colleagues in UCD. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology UCD, and a Clinical Lecturer in the School of Medicine TCD.
Michael Downey is a Senior Social Work Practitioner in the Intensive Care Unit in Tallaght University Hospital. He is the first dedicated ICU Social Work post holder in Tallaght University Hospital having been appointed in January 2022. He is part of a small but growing group of Critical Care Social Workers nationally in Ireland and has assisted in the formation of a practice support group for critical care Social Workers. Michael graduated from University College Dublin with a degree in Social Science before ging on to complete a Masters in Social Work in Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 2014. Prior to qualifying as a Social Worker, Michael worked in homeless and addiction services for 5 years developing his skills in relationship building and implementing core social work values of respect for human rights, autonomy, equality, and advocay. Michael has held many roles in Tallaght University Hospital as well as working as a Medical Social Worker in Toronto, Canada for 5 years where he developed a particulary keen interest in the areas of support at the end of life, assisted decision making, consent, capacity, and advance care planning.
Dr. Cole is the Head of Innovation at Tallaght University Hospital, Dublinn. In this role she is responsible for leading the establishment of an Innovation Centre in one of the largest academic teaching hospitals in Ireland. She joined TUH in July 2021 and has already played a pivotal role in developing and extensive pipeline of innovation projects.
Dr. Cole has over 20 years national and international experience in Health Research and Innovation. Dr. Cole has initially pursued a career in academic research and was Assistant Professor of Neurogenetics at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago. On returning to Ireland she supported the development of the spin-out company Neuropath at Trinity College Dublin. She has extensive change and project management experience and was Change and Benefits lead for the Office of the CEO of the HSE and delivered large complex healthcare projects. She has a passion for the translation of innovative projects for the benefit of patients and service users.
Nina Holden is a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist at Tallaght University Hospital. Nina graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2012 with a BSc Physiotherapy. She then moved to the UK where she completed a wide range of rotations within the NHS where she specialised in Cardiorespiratory and more specifically, Critical Care. Having worked across the areas of cardiothoracic surgery, heart and lung transplant, and haematology/oncology, Nina recently moved back to Ireland to work within the HSE. Nina has a special interest in the area of ventilation weaning and early rehabilitation as well as in teaching and SIM based education.
Sinéad has over 17 years clinical experience with a specialist focus in Critical Care nursing. Sinéad is a nurse leader with a passion for driving nursing forward through nurse led innovations and research. In 2021, Sinéad was awarded Fellow of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.
Sinéad began a new role as Clinical Innovation Specialist in 2023 and continues to maintain clinical practice hours in critical care. This role, to our knowledge is the first of its kind in terms of nursing in Ireland. She is keen to support the delivery of innovation projects across the Hospital and engage with industry, academia, and government agencies.
