Welcome to my website!
I am a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Environmental Economics at the Global Development Institute of the University of Manchester. I am also an associate at the Grantham Research Institute in Climate Change and the Environment at the LSE.
I am an environmental economist with interest in health, development, behavioral and climate change economics. My work seeks to provide policy insights for balancing economic development with protection of human health and the environment. Most of my work has focused on the effects of air pollution on health. As air pollution is a growing problem in developing and emerging economies I believe that policy efforts to reduce air pollution should be backed by solid evidence-based analysis. To this end, I conduct applied empirical analysis employing both observational data and econometric techniques as well as by collecting primary data while conducting field-based Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs).
Previously, I have worked as a Fellow in Environmental Economics at the Department of Geography and Environment of LSE, as research consultant for the Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank, and as Postdoctoral Fellow at Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and Cornell University's Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future. I hold a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics and an MA in Economics, both from the University of Maryland, and a MA and bachelor's degree in economics from University of Chile.
