DARYL G. KRONER

Research and Practice in Corrections Lab + CRIM lab (Bob Morgan)

About / Background

My first job as a correctional psychologist began at a medium security institution. I continued for over 20 years as prison psychologist, with approximately 10 in a maximum security, and finishing in a minimum security facility.

In 2008 I took an academic position at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Early on I saw the need for using current and appropriate instruments within the criminal justice system. This led to my research on the reliability and validity of instruments, with a focus on general psychopathology measures. Initial endeavors involved basic psychometric and normative projects. This expanded to areas of anger, antisocial attitudes, and criminal attributions. More recently, my focus has been on offender self-prediction, examining reasons why offenders do not do crime, and integrating these ideas into criminal justice practice.

The purpose of these recent efforts is to contribute to maximizing client freedom and safer communities through better understanding, prediction, and changing of criminal behavior. The crime problem has touched us all. I want to reduce that impact.
