Current Initiative:
Downtown Cannabis Grove & Processing Facility (proposed)

Project Status

Community Positions (summarized)
Current zoning does not permit the processing of cannabis, unless approved by the SLO Planning Commission and SLO Board of Supervisors.
The proximity to Creston Elementary School, while on technicalities meets minimum standards, in practical application in a small downtown like Creston exposes small children to cannabis and normalizes its cultivation and lifestyle.
The processing is likely to require extensive groundwater use and produce harmful wastewater byproducts. With the Paso Groundwater Basin classified as in "critical overdraft," conditioning this type of operation only exacerbates these issues. Further, proximity to the Huerhuero creek within a flood plain exposes adjacent properties through subsurface water migration.
Accountable Representation
The Creston Advisory Board (CAB) holds no direct authority over the decision of whether or not to conditionally-approve this type of use for the property. Ultimately, District 5 Supervisor, Heather Moreno, will be a key voice in whether or not this project moves forward.
