2nd November 2025 - AGM
As the season winds down, it's time to come together for one of the most important events in our club calendar, namely our Annual General Meeting (AGM).
This year’s AGM of the Men’s Club will be held on Thursday the 13th November at 8:00pm in the clubhouse.
We will also be availing of the opportunity to present of several end of year prizes including, the monthly medal winners, golfer of the year and our singles and doubles matchplay winners.
This is your opportunity to hear about the club’s progress, share your views, and help guide the direction of our club for the coming year. But more than that – we need you.
Our club thrives because of the passion and dedication of its members. We are currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join the 2026 committee. Whether you have fresh ideas, a knack for organisation, or simply a love for the game and our golfing community, your contribution can make a real difference.
Even if you’re unsure about joining the committee, come along to the AGM and see what it’s all about. Your presence and voice matter.
Some Formal Activities.
Notice of motions in respect of matters appropriate to the business of the Men’s Club, must be made in writing to the following e-mail address on or before 5pm on Monday 10th November 2025. cregmoreconmpetitions@gmail.com. 2025 Club Matchplay Competitions - Entry/Sign Up and Entry Fee
The Club Matchplay Competition is now opening for sign up.
There are two separate events.
Individual Matchplay.
Doubles/Pairs Matchplay.
These are both "Championship" (straight knockout) formats. I must stress that there is a 2 week window where you must have your match completed. No extensions will be given as both finals should be completed by the end of September. We are hoping to begin the tournaments in early May, with sign-ups ending on the 27th of April.
You can enter by putting entry fee in an envelope and clearly mark with your name/s and state match play comp (singles or doubles). Then post the envelope into the fees box at the computer in the clubhouse.
Entry Fee Clarification: Entry to Matchplay competitions was NOT included in the €200 payment option.
Individual Matchplay : This is to be played against another member off the BLUE Tees. It is played against another player on the course, 1-on-1. The person with the lowest score on the hole wins that hole to go 1 up, etc. Handicap allocation (shots given) will be the full difference between the two players' playing handicaps on the day of the match, with a maximum of 18 shots being given. Entry is €10 and must be clearly indicated on the envelope
Doubles/Pairs Matchplay: This is where a team of two plays another team of two at the same time. It is alternate-shot FOURSOMES, where one person drives off, the other person hits the next shot, and so on until the hole is finished. It will be played off the White Tees. Handicap allocation is half the difference of the combined current course handicaps between the two pairings. Both pairs will calculate their pair’s playing handicap (50% of the combined total of the course handicaps of both players). The full difference between the playing handicaps of each pair will determine the number of shots given/received, with a maximum of 18 shots being given. Entry is €20 per team and must be clearly indicated on the envelope.
The winner of each round advances to the next and the loser is eliminated from the competition.
Entry is strictly through signing up via envelope deposit.
All rules and guidelines will be posted on the noticeboard in the changing room. We also have copies of a guide All About Matchplay if you need one! This is a fantastic format of golf, just like the Ryder Cup, and they are noted as the unofficial club 5th and 6th Majors in the calendar year. You can enter both competitions, but if you are looking for a partner for the Doubles Matchplay just let me know and we will try to match you up!
Regards
Martin Moran
Club Singles & Doubles Matchplay Coordinator.

WEEKEND COMPETITIONS
Dear Members,
Please note that changes have been made to the competitions calendar and that this weekend's Men's competition 7th-9th October is a STABLEFORD competition off the WHITE TEES. Pick, clean and place will again be allowed on the fairways with no relief in the rough. The entry fee will be €5. The competition is a qualifier for this year's golfer of the year.
Last weekend, with Steven Gilmore swanning off to look at camels and the like in North Africa, (while there was a perfectly good horse fair in Ballinasloe), Cillian McSweeney with a superb round closed the gap at the top of the Golfer of the Year standings to 1.2pts. A close finish over the final two weekends is now guaranteed. Elsewhere, Darren Hurney, Shane Faherty and Niall O'Grady moved up the leaderboard with their wins in the singles and doubles matchplays. Little was expected of Sean McGinty or Paul O'Grady at the end of September but now that we are into October, an improved performance is almost guaranteed. I'm also sorry to report that the well-oiled golfing machine that was Hughie Hynes prior to his trip to the midlands, is now putting out black smoke and failed to feature.

LADIES
This weekends Ladies competitions (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) will be 9 Hole and 18 Hole Stableford Competitions.

WEEKEND COMPETITIONS
Dear Members,
For this weekend's competition only, given the heavy rains in the last 12 hours, when a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in the relief area and playing it from this relief area:
Reference Point: Spot of the original ball.
Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: One scorecard length (or 6 inches) from the reference point, but with these limits:
Limits on Location of Relief Area: Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and must be in the general area.
There is no relief in any area that is not cut to fairway height or less.
The competition remains qualifying for handicap purposes.

WEEKEND COMPETITIONS
Dear Members,
Please note that changes have been made to the competitions calendar and that this weekend's Men's competition 30th September - 2nd October is a STABLEFORD competition off the WHITE TEES. The entry fee will be €5. The competition is a qualifier for this year's golfer of the year. Last weekend Steven Gilmore further consolidated his lead at the top with Cillian McSweeney still in second place and a number of players close behind. The once-spritely Hughie Hynes, still suffering from the previous weeks exertions, took the week off and spent the weekend being chauffer driven around the midlands in a buggy by John Flanagan.

Dear Member,
I am delighted to let you know that our incoming Captain for the 2023 golf season is Bernard McHale. His captaincy will get underway at the beginning of November. Having known Bernard for many years, I have no doubt that he will contribute significantly to the club and represent us all with great pride. On a personal note, I am delighted to see Bernard coming on board and that he was "Honored" to accept the role of Captain for the next season. He is an exceptional person and will be a great ambassador for Cregmore Park Golf Club going forward.
Thanks

WEEKEND COMPETITIONS
Dear Members,
Please note that changes have been made to the competitions calendar and that this weekend's Men's competition 23rd-25th September is a STABLEFORD competition off the WHITE TEES. The entry fee will be €5. The competition is a qualifier for this year's golfer of the year. With the top six all failing to register points last week and even the ever-spritely Hughie Hynes flagging after the previous days exertions, the only significant mover was Sean McGinty who is now in third place. Sean may represent Mayo's last chance of winning any honors this year, or next year or the year after that............
PLEASE NOTE: There have been a number of complaints regarding the pace of play last weekend with large gaps appearing on the course early in the morning and rounds taking an inordinate amount of time to complete. Please ensure that your group keeps up with the group in front, particularly those with early tee times, as your rate of play defines the rate that those can play coming behind.

Dear Members,
After sterling work by Ronan McGrath and the greenkeeping staff, all 18 holes open today and will be open for play this weekend. This weekend's Men's competition 16th-18th September is a STROKE competition off the BLUE TEES. The entry fee will be €5. The competition is a qualifier for the Golfer of the Year. With leader Steven Gilmore failing to produce a round of any consequence during the last qualifying event and second placed Cillian McSweeney also unusually off form, a number of other golfers remain in contention. These include the ever spritely Hughie Hynes who leads the chasing pack with four events left to go after this week.

Dear member,
This email is to update you all on where we are at the moment regarding our attempts to purchase personal golf insurance cover. We need 100+ people to sign up for this policy before the insurance company will consider taking us on. Unfortunately, we are still well short of this number. Our aim was to ensure all playing members would have insurance in place by now as players are held responsible if their wayward shot (or even their club) hits someone else and causes injury. This Personal Liability insurance covers members in the event they cause injury to another golfer or damage someone’s property.
For anyone that has paid the €25 into the fees box, we have a record of it; however, you are still not covered under any policy as of yet. The goal now is to try and reach this number of 100 by the end of December and get the cover up and running by January (or sooner if we reach the number required before then). Please consider purchasing this insurance as soon as possible.
There are several benefits to this policy, some of which are outlined below. Never thee less, a very important aspect of this as mentioned above is the Personal Liability and Personal Accident cover. We have all heard the stories or know someone that has had a close call or worse on the course, or was even unfortunate enough to cause injury to a fellow golfer.
At €25, this policy is great value and as well as the personal liability, it covers loss or damage to many items of golf equipment and personal items such as:
· Golf clubs (e.g., damage to head of driver), bags, shoes, waterproofs etc.
· Personal items, Clothing, Watches, Jewellery, Jackets, Jumpers etc.
· Loss of keys
· Damage to mobile phone
The full brochure for the insurance is attached so please read it to find out all other benefits that this policy covers.
For less than 50c a week this is great value for money and we as a committee strongly recommend and hope that members avail of the opportunity to sign up for this insurance sooner rather than later.
As mentioned in previous emails, to purchase, simply put the €25 into an envelope, write your name (clearly) and state that it is for insurance cover. Place the envelope into the competition’s fees slot beside the computer and once we get enough players signed up, we will do the rest.

Dear Members,
Please note that essential maintenance will be carried out on the greens this week, and as a result the following will apply:
Wednesday: Front 9 holes open
Thursday: Back 9 holes open.
You may play either 9 holes twice if you wish, but ensure you check availability. Priority on the tee is given to the booked tee time at that time.
Thank you for your patience and consideration and fully in the knowledge that the greens will benefit as a result.
Declan.

Dear Members,
Please find below details about a fundraiser being held tomorrow, Saturday, in Corinthians RFC in aid of our own very popular member Paddy Flynn. Paddy has been a member of Cregmore Park for many great years and his sociability, humour and over-all character have made him a big personality at the club. The piece below is taken from the Galway Advertiser and also details more about his rugby career. Best wishes to you Paddy!
"THIS Saturday evening, Galway Corinthians RFC will host an evening of sport and enjoyment with the goal of raising much-needed funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The evening will start with a game between the “Legends” of Galway Corinthians RFC and Galwegians RFC at 6pm followed by a special presentation to former president Paddy Flynn who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last year.
Born in Bloomhill, a village located outside Athlone, A keen rower, Paddy did his apprenticeship in Athlone before moving to Galway where he worked with Hynes Builders on Merchant’s Road before opening Galway Real Estate in the late 1970’s.
As a player, Paddy was captain of Galway Corinthians in the 1969-70 season at a time that saw Corinthians battle with UCG and Galwegians in the Connacht Senior League and Cup. He was also honoured with selection for Connacht at senior level, making his debut against Leinster on the 4th of November 1972 playing six times. His last game for the province was on the 8th of December 1973 against Munster.
Paddy held a variety of positions in Corinthians and became president of the club for the 1982-83 season that saw the club win the Connacht Senior League and reach the Connacht Senior Cup Final against Galwegians.
The evening will feature a Barbecue and for €25 those who attend will get food and a drink with all profits from the evening going to The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association."

Dear Members,
Please find below the details of Noel Hynes' Captain's Prize, prizegiving, yesterday's results and the Free Drop ruling as it will pertain for the wildflower areas in all competitions and general play on the course this year.
This weekend 19th – 21st August 2022 see's the holding of this years CAPTAIN'S PRIZE. This is the last major competition of the year and is kindly sponsored by David Elwood of ‘David E Menswear.'
You can sign up for the Captain’s prize by putting your name on the sign-up sheet in the men’s changing room in the clubhouse. Please note that the sign up sheets will be taken down the evening previous to the days play at 6pm to allow organizing of time-slots and sending out of time sheets for the following day. If you can, please consider playing on the Friday as Saturdays are traditionally much busier on captain’s prize qualifying weekends.
The format for the competition will be 36-hole Blue Stroke. Qualifying (18 holes) will take place on Friday and Saturday. The leading 72 players and the best 6 gross scores (TBC) will then qualify for the final 18 holes on Sunday morning.
Prize-giving is scheduled for 8:30pm in The Porterhouse, Oranmore (upstairs) and you are all invited to attend as we will have some free drinks and food for all!
Hope you all enjoy the weekend and enjoy meeting your fellow members both on and off the golf course!

* NB: Wildflower Rules For Captain's Prize
They are No Play Zones that are to be treated as an Abnormal Course Condition. Free relief must be taken from interference in or by the no play zone under Rule 16.1f
The ball must not be played as it lies in these areas and we would encourage players not to look for their ball in these areas in order to protect the wildflowers.
The ball does not need to be found in these areas – the player(s) just need to be virtually certain that the ball lies in one of these areas to be granted free relief.
If a player’s ball is outside a no play zone and is in the general area and a no play zone interferes with the player’s area of intended stance or area of intended swing, the player may take free relief.
If the abnormal course condition is close enough to distract the player but does not meet any of the requirements above there is no interference and no relief.
Diagram 16.1a: When taking a free relief drop the player must take complete relief (including stance and area of intended swing) and pick a reference point at the nearest point of relief from where the ball lies (if visible). If the ball is not found / visible use the estimated point where the ball last crossed the edge of the abnormal course condition on the course as the spot of the ball for purposes of finding the nearest point of complete relief (The nearest point of relief may be in the very long grass!)
Note that this reference point could (and also depending on whether the player is left of right handed) be on either side of the Abnormal Course Condition – see example below). The relief area for dropping is within one club length of the reference point no nearer the hole.
Once the player puts another ball in play to take relief in this way the original ball is no longer in play and must not be played even if found within 3 minutes.
Should a player attempt to play the ball from the No Play Zone or not take correct or complete relief and play the ball from the wrong place the penalty, in Breach of Rule 16.1: General Penalty under Rule 14.7a, is a 2 shot penalty in Strokeplay
ADDITIONAL NOTES AND LOCAL RULES
The wooded area between the 4th, 8th and 9th is out of bounds. It is not permissible to enter this area as it is a protected structure.
The 7th hole is out of bounds when playing the 5th.
The stone edging to paths and flower beds are considered immovable instructions with relief as outlined in Rules 16.1 (and as above)
There is no relief from staked trees or the stakes themselves supporting the trees
The spinney between the 9th and 10th is an integral part of the course with no relief other than under penalty (stroke and distance or unplayable ball if chosen for ball that has been found and identified)
There is an optional drop zone on Hole 16 for balls that enter the penalty area and it should be noted that those parts of the penalty that are not marked are to be considered red penalty areas.

DISTURBED GROUND
There are currently ploughed and tilled areas on either side of the 6th hole, between the 9th and 10th holes and between the 13th and 14th holes. While the area between the 13th and 14th holes remains out of bounds, the other areas are to be considered Disturbed Ground until further notice.
A player may drop out of these areas with no penalty. When dropping, you must take the nearest point of relief (stance) and one club length. Make sure you drop the ball no closer to the hole.

SCORE ENTRY & HANDICAPPING
The following is available through a link on the "Handicaps" page on the members page of the club website. Click here
We have noticed some issues this past weekend on score entry and handicap alterations which have now been resolved.
However, we need to bring the problem to the attention of all of our members:
When you return your score and have a zero/scratch (0) for a hole, you must enter the number zero (0) itself - do not click the arrows to go to the next hole. The computer will then prompt you to click one of two boxes:
Played But Did Not Score, and,
Did Not Play.
Each of the above boxes will affect your handicap in different ways.
Played But Did Not Score: This is where you played the hole in either stroke-play or stable-ford (points) and you either lost a ball and didn't record a score, or you didn't have enough strokes to record a score on the hole. This is the default choice you should make. The software will take this into account and will award you a net double-bogey for handicap purposes.
Did Not Play: the key difference in this one is that the handicapping software will take your no-score on the hole and award you a net-par, or 2 points, for handicapping purposes. For example, if you entered into an 18 hole competition and managed to only play 9 holes, the computer will automatically award you 18 points for the back 9. This is done to discourage any player from walking off the course while having a good score. If a player clicks this one but actually had no score on the hole, they will be cut more on their handicap than what they should have been.
As all affected scores over the weekend have been corrected, several players may see a very slight change to their handicaps as they were yesterday.
Please pay strict attention during the score entry process, as ultimately it is the player's responsibility to choose the correct option as a zero on a card can not be distinguished by the committee and will have to stand in future as to which the player chooses.

INTERCLUB RESULT
Our Pierce Purcell team suffered defeat to Gort GC last night in a closely run affair. Cregmore Park had three out of the five matches away in Gort which left them fighting an uphill battle from the word go. The team fought gamely however and won one of the games at home and were about to win another away, when the match was called in with Gort having the achieved the three wins required.
Although they were beaten, the team and extended panel have put in a tremendous effort in the last couple of months in practice as well as some closely fought matches to reach the Connacht Quarter Final. It bodes well for the future of the team and there is definitely a pennant there for the taking in the coming years if the same level of commitment is maintained.

Dear Member,
Please find below the results of yesterday's competition.
Also, a big thank you to you all who continue to call into the clubhouse before you go to play. The evenings after work can be quite busy at times so it always makes it easier for us and others, even if you haven't booked a tee time and wish to get out we can organise that for you no problem.
Thanks also to all our members who never mind meeting other fellow members and allowing them to join up on a tee time; it continues to make Cregmore Park a very welcoming place to be.
Please ensure that if you book a tee time for 4 players and not all of them can make it that you let us know in advance.
Kind regards,
Declan.

Dear member,
For those who may not know, the Galway senior men's team have reached this year's All-Ireland football Final which will take place on Sunday the 24th of July. As a result of the fantastic achievement, it has been decided to move the date of our last Major of the year, Noel Hynes' Captains Prize to the weekend of the 19th, 20th and 21st of August. The GOY blue stroke event which was due to take place on these dates will now be brought forward to the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of July. More details regarding the Captains Prize weekend will be sent out in due course.
This also means a change of date to our joint Ladies and mens captains, and Presidents prize giving night out. This is due to take place in the private bar upstairs at the Porter House in Oranmore. We will have food and complimentary drinks for all members in attendance as well as a DJ for those who want to show off some dance moves on the night. This exact date will be finalised and sent out in the very near future so you can save it to your diary.
Below are a few more notes for consideration:

Golf Outing
We are planning a one night stay and play golf outing for members at the end of September. Thanks to member Kevin McMahon for researching and organising the trip.
The proposed dates for the outing are Saturday 24th September and Sunday 25th September.
The weekend itinerary will be as follows:
Golf at Abbeyleix GC, Co. Laois, teeing off circa 12:00pm on Saturday 24th September.
Dinner that evening at the Manor Hotel Abbeyleix (5 minutes from the golf course).
Overnight stay in the Manor Hotel with breakfast included the following morning.
Golf at Mountrath GC on Sunday 25th September (15minutes from the hotel).
Prize giving (location depending on bus travel or not) and then home.
The total cost of the trip (excluding bus) will be €120 per person sharing. Interest is high for travelling by bus so once a price has been agreed, details will be sent to everyone that has signed up.
Please indicate if interested in this trip away by replying to this email or putting your name on the sign-up sheet in the men’s and lady’s locker rooms. Once numbers have been confirmed, a deposit will be collected.
This promises to be a great outing if reports of previous club days and nights away are anything to go by. So, get your name on the sign-up sheets and start looking forward to finishing off our golfing season in style!!
Golf Insurance
Members can continue to sign up for golf insurance by simply putting your details on an envelope with the fee enclosed. Place it in the competition fees slot beside the sign-in computer and we will do the rest. We as a committee strongly recommend that you purchase this insurance policy at a cost of €25.
Club Matchplays
Just a reminder to make sure to have your matches played before each deadline. We don't want a situation where the toss of a coin decides the winner of any match. However, we also have to be fair on those who are playing their matches within the given time frame.
https://challonge.com/IndividualMatchplayCregmore
https://challonge.com/DoublesMatchplay
Individual fee €10
Pairs fee €10 per person
Please place your fee into an envelope with your name on front and indicate match play and place into the fees box
Individual match play off the blue tees
Pairs match play off the white tees
Please contact your opponents to arrange dates of play. No 2 balls match plays to be played on Saturday's or Sunday's
Deadline date for each round is above each column. Ample time given for each round to be played, so no exceptions if matches do not get played. In the event that a match is not played the committee will toss a coin to see who will proceed to the next round
Individual match play - 100% course handicap will be used.
For the duration of the tournament your handicap cannot go up but may go down ( i.e. if you start at round 1 and 12.1 you cannot play round 2 at 13.2)
Handicap calculated individual match plays is players handicap x 116 / 113
Handicap calculated pairs match play is players handicap x 114 / 113
The lower player / pair goes to zero and the opponent('s) plays off the difference
The pairs match play is a foursome format (playing one ball in alternating order on each hole)
Pairs match play - 50% of combined course handicap of a pair.
Men’s club fee
Thank you to all who continue to pay their men’s club fee. This is our only fundraising avenue for the year and is vital for maintaining a strong and healthy men’s club. Also, just a gentle reminder that anyone collecting a prize during the year should have their €20 men’s club fee paid (this motion was passed at a previous AGM). This is a once-off yearly fee, and I believe that it is only fair on everyone if we continue to support our club together.

INTERCLUB MATCHES
Our Pierce Purcell team had a fine victory yesterday evening overcoming a strong Bearna GC team 3.5/.1.5. The match was finally settled when Niall Purcell and Darren Hurney held their nerves in check to get a fine par on the 18th to close out the match. This was however a win fashioned by all of the ten man team together with the extended panel who helped in their preparation. There was a fine turn out to watch the match which was much appreciated by the players. A special word of thanks to Martin Moran who braved the many late evening midges in Bearna to follow the matches there. Our next match is against Gort GC in two weeks time.
Our Junior Cup team are in action this evening against Loughrea GC with three matches at home, the first of which is teeing off at 4.30pm. It would be great to get as many members as possible to attend and lend their support to the lads.

Dear Members,
The computer terminal is back working at the golf club again after a brief hiatus and as such we require all players in a competition to Sign In through the computer prior to play to ensure a qualifying score.
This weekend is an Open Competition weekend, open to both members and guests, with more details below.
I am hopeful that the label printer will be back online and operating for this weekend, but if all fails, please indicate your Playing Handicap on your scorecard as it appears on screen when you sign in. Over the past few weeks, with great effort and leniency we have managed to find most players who didn't legibly print their names on their scorecards - please ensure that all names are written in a clear manner on the cards.
As was stated last week, the ploughed areas on the course are to be deemed disturbed ground for the time being, and as such offer free relief: one club length free relief from the nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole.
Thank you and hope you all enjoy the weekend!

Just a few general notes to keep in mind:
Golf Insurance
The uptake for the golf insurance policy has slowed considerably in the last couple of weeks. Please consider purchasing this insurance as you will have peace of mind knowing that you are covered if anything unfortunate should happen while out on any golf course. Again, we as a committee strongly recommend that you purchase this insurance policy at a cost of €25. Simply put your details on an envelope with the fee enclosed. Place it in the competition fees slot beside the sign-in computer and we will do the rest.
Interclub Teams
This Sunday, our senior cup lads take on Co. Sligo golf club. The match tees off at 2.10pm and we have two matches at home. Good luck to John Costello and his men in this one. On May 31st from 4.30pm, we have three matches at home as our Fred Perry team take on Galway Bay golf club in round 3 of their competition. Best of luck to JP, Declan and the rest of the panel. June is going to be our busiest month so far for team golf so keep an eye on the updates for more information.
Just a reminder for those who may not be aware, anyone playing on a team for Cregmore Park is expected to wear our club kit (i.e. Cregmore jumper with club crest, Cregmore polo shirt with club crest and black or dark pants/skirt/shorts). We as a club have left a lot to be desired in the past when it comes to team members wearing our club colours on match days. We should hold each other accountable when it comes to our dress code for Interclub team events as we represent ourselves, fellow team members and all at Cregmore Park golf club.
Club Matchplays
Just a reminder to make sure to have your matches played before each deadline. Round one of the individual matchplay is this Sunday the 29th. We don't want a situation where the toss of a coin decides the winner of any match. However, we also have to be fair on those who are playing their matches within the given time frame.

Don’t forget to let us know if you would prefer to travel separately or by bus.

All-Ireland 4- Ball
Well done to our All-Ireland fourball team of Alan Lynch, Brendan Lynskey, Dave Grealish, Gerry Kelly, Joe Glynn, Matt Kavanagh, Pat Kelly, Patrick Mangan, Seamus Mulkerins and Tom Hillary who defeated Galway Bay golf club in Saturdays match.
Unfortunately, we have subsequently been disqualified because of a rule breach on the day of the competition. This is a very cruel way to lose any match and very hard on those involved. I suppose the harsh lesson here is if not certain, we should always check and adhere to the rules set out for each competition no matter how inconsequential they might seem.
In any case, thank you to Captain Declan O Loughlin, Vice-Captain Dave Grealish and the whole squad for giving their time and effort for Cregmore Park this season.
Fred Perry (over 55's)
Next Monday the 16th of May, our Fred Perry team get their season up and running against Oughterard. We have two matches at home and three away with the first match teeing off at 4.26 at home. Best of luck to team captain JP O'Connell, vice-captain Declan Beirne and the rest of the squad. If you have an hour or two to spare Monday evening, stick on a Cregmore jumper or t-shirt and come out and show your support for the lads.

17 April 2022:
Dear member,
Just a few general notes as our golfing season gets going:
Golf Insurance
The uptake for the golf insurance policy has been steady so far.
The club team events will be getting underway soon with four teams scheduled to take to the course before the end of April. Don’t forget to put your name on the team sheets in the men’s locker room. This is a great opportunity to represent your club against other clubs around the province and maybe even the country. Our team captains and vice-captains are continuing to keep one eye on the team sheets as well as keeping busy working away behind the scenes organising practice sessions, matches etc. Many of the team panels will be finalised over the next couple of weeks. So, please don’t regret waiting to be asked to play for your club and donning the colours of Cregmore Park. It is a great honour to be able to represent your club, and matchplay is an excellent format that allows us to do so with our team mates.
Club Matchplays
Our own Individual (Blue tees) and Pairs Matchplay (White tees) sign-up sheets are filling up fast. With just a week to go before the sign-up deadline date of April 24th, don’t forget to get your name in. With serious bragging rights as well as possible GOY points on offer, these matches are likely to be highly competitive and will undoubtedly help to improve your golf game along the way. Thanks again to O’Learys Insurance (Individual) and Stewarts Oil (Pairs) for sponsoring these matchplay competitions.
Men’s club fee
Thank you to all who have paid their men’s club fee so far.
Thank you
Noel Hynes
Captain 2022
16 December 2021:
Dear Members,
Fortunately, the weather has improved and the forecast for the weekend is for it to remain dry. This weekends competition will be a 13 Hole Stableford Competition - Holes 1-12 & 18 - off the white tees (Non-Qualifying). €5 Entry Fee. Pick, clean and place will be allowed everywhere. Prizes will be awarded by category which will be proportionate to the entry to the competition. Anyone who wishes to play in the competition on more than one day over the weekend can do so.
Although the competition is over 13 holes, unless advised otherwise, the full 18 holes of the course will be available to play for those who wish to do so.
15 December 2021:
New Handicap Indexes
Please note that all outstanding new handicap indexes have now been processed. GUI cards have been ordered and should be issued by Golf Ireland very shortly. These can be collected from the clubhouse. Note there is a charge of €10 for these cards which must be paid at the clubhouse before receipt of the card.
Score cards submitted for new handicap index purpose that did not contain sufficient information (e.g. date/signatures/tees used/legible details of players, markers etc) to allow accurate processing have been discarded.
Casual/General Play Rounds
Please note that General play/Casual rounds at Cregmore pk will not be accepted or counted towards handicap index for a period of time. This is due to the course conditions at this time of year. This measure will remain in place until mid-February 2022 at the earliest and will be reviewed at that time. The facility to enter casual/general play scores via the computer terminal and also via the golf Ireland app will be removed in the coming days. In the interim members are asked not to submit casual/general play rounds at Cregmore pk. Any casual/general play rounds that are submitted will be deleted.
If members submit casual/general play scores from other clubs which continue to operate under Golf Ireland rules with acceptable score conditions during this period these will be accepted for handicapping purposes.
Annual Handicap Review
Please note that Golf Ireland require an annual review of handicap indexes to be carried out in all golf clubs. This must be completed before the end of this year and is currently underway at Cregmore Pk gc. This review may result in adjustments being made to some member’s handicap indexes before the year end. Members will be notified of any changes. The appeals procedure is available at: Golf Ireland Handicap Appeals Procedure
Should you have any queries in relation to handicapping please submit same via the main men’s club secretary's email at: cregmoreparkhon.secretary@gmail.com
*late start to season due to covid 19 restrictions.
Yours,
Ronan O'Reilly,
On behalf of the men’s club handicap Committee 2022

10 May 2021:
Dear members,
The Cregmore Park Men’s Golf Club annual AGM was held on November 8th 2021. Thank you to all who attended and those who sent their apologies.
Men’s club officers for 2022:
President: John Costello
Captain: Noel Hynes
Vice-Captain: Carl Wissing
Captain Ex-officio: Denis Monaghan
Honorary Secretary: Kieran Treacy
Treasurer: Steven Gilmore
Competition Secretary: Denis Monaghan
Handicap Secretary: Ronan O’Reilly
General Committee Members:
Brian Costello, Bosco Hurney, Declan Beirne, Gerard McGrath.
Congratulations and thank you to each committee member above for signing up to represent our members for 2022. Appreciation must also to the outgoing committee for their time and commitment in the year gone by. It is a great honour to represent our men’s club and we as a group, are determined to continue and build on the work that has been done by committees before us. It should be highlighted that these are voluntary positions that the lads have taken on so fair play to them for doing so.
We held our first committee meeting on November 16th. Over the next number of weeks, we will start planning for next seasons inter-club team competitions, seek sponsorship for the year ahead and begin drafting our competitions calendar. In the meantime, course conditions along with the weather for this time of year will determine the type of weekly competitions. Numbers playing each weekend have been fantastic for this time of year and it would be great to see this continue.
As I said in my address at the AGM, I would invite and encourage any ideas or suggestions from members as to how we might improve the running of our men’s club or any other ideas you might have. These can be shared by replying to this email address.
It would be great to do something for our junior members this year to help progress their talents. However, we cannot develop much of a programme without volunteers. As is normally the case, to successfully run any junior section, help from parents is essential. Please get in touch if you can help us out in any way. Whether or not you can commit to helping out, please let us know by reply to this email if your child would be interested in being part of a development programme or playing on a team for 2022.
Thank you for all the good wishes I have received since taking up my new role within the club. On a personal note, I am delighted to be Captain for 2022 at a time when my father Hughie, two of my brothers Alan and Paul and my son Michael are members of Cregmore Park. I will finish by taking this opportunity to wish them and all of our members a successful 2022 golfing season and look forward to seeing you on the golf course or in the clubhouse.
Thank you
Noel Hynes

Course Etiquette
It was notable during the course of last weekends competition that a considerable number of pitch marks were being left unattended on the greens. This was particularly concerning on Sunday morning when only members were on the course. It was also evident that divots were not being replaced on the fairways by some of those involved in the competition as well as in general play. Everyone will agree that the course and the greens in particular, are in great condition and have come in for considerable praise over the past year. Lets not spoil it by omitting to do something that takes only a fraction of a second to complete. Please replace your divots and repair your pitch marks.
There were a number of complaints last weekend about the speed of play. It is accepted that it is not always easy to find your ball during the winter months but PLEASE confine search to a MAXIMUM of 3 MINUTES. It is one of the rules of the game and playing partners should advise those looking for balls when the limit is being exceeded. If this rule is adhered to, rounds can be completed in a reasonable length of time and the patience of those playing behind you will likely remain untested.
Thank you in advance.

We will start Week 2 now from this week until next Monday (27th March) and play it over 9 holes (front 9) instead. Entry is €10 and must be paid by all entrants please. Spring League will return to 13 holes after week 2 (1-12 & 18). Week 3 will run from Tuesday 28th March until Sunday 2nd April. Week 4 will run from Monday 3rd April to Sunday 9th April. Week 1 & 2 results are now posted on the website.
The annual Social Fee will be collected this month in the clubhouse by members of the committee. It is mandatory for all members and is only €20. It will cover all social events, food and refreshments after Scrambles, Captains' Drive In, Lady Captain's, Captain's Day, Presidents Prize, Stroke Cup weekend and Captain's Cup weekend. It is important that this is paid by all members, with or without a handicap, or playing in competitions or not, to the vital running of the social events in the club that we are well known for. It is, again, a mandatory sum, but, once paid, we have decided to forgo one entry into any regular Men's Club competition of your choice during the months of March and April. This will effectively mean that the Social Fund fee is really only €14. Simply pop €20 into one of the white envelopes beside the computer terminal on the weekend of your choice and that will do as your competition entry also. This offer can not be used for the Spring League, Drive In, or the Stroke Cup.
The Captain's Drive in will take place this year on Sunday 26th March. Format is open draw, 18 holes (if possible) scramble. Entry is €10, with food and refreshments served on the day. The course was open today, Thursday, for 9 holes. It more than likely will be open again tomorrow (front 9 only), but make sure to ring 091 799 799 for course conditions beforehand if you intend to play.
This month's presentation will be held next Sunday, 26th February at 5:00pm sharp. If you have won a prize during the month of February, please be in attendance or have someone there to pick it up for you instead!

Ready Golf:
Ready Golf is a term coined to help the pace of play around clubs all over Ireland. The main idea is that if you are out in your fourball during the weekend, that you hit your ball when ready and that you go to your ball before helping your partners look for a ball etc. Please also ensure that you are keeping up with the group in front of you. If there is a group, or groups of players, behind you and they are being held up, you must let that group ahead of you. It only takes two minutes to let a group through and it takes a lot of time off the round of golf for everyone else on the course.
This weekend's competition (28 & 29 January) is 13 hole Stableford off the White tees. Pick and place everywhere. €5 entry and €2 re entry.
The Sign Up sheets are now on the noticeboard in the changing room for our Inter Club teams! If you have played/tried out for them in the past you will know that matchplay is the best format in golf. There are several teams and formats that you can play in, with each team having different handicap specifications and permutations to suit all levels of golfer. There's a lot to go into, but the entry qualifications for each individual are handily posted up beside the Sign Up sheets. Old or young, experienced or beginner, put down your name, get out playing golf with other members and hopefully represent your club to win a Connaught or All Ireland medal!
Golfing Insurance with AON Insurance is now available to all our members. The cost this year is €27 (I had previously stated €28, apologies). It's great value for the personal cover, liability cover and club/gear cover on offer, whether you are playing at home or on any other golf course. If you'd like to avail of it, and we strongly recommend that you do, simply pop the money into an envelope and write your name and state that it's for Insurance Cover. As usual, the competitions entry box is the handiest spot to deposit it and we will do the rest.
Please note that all insurance cover must be lodged with the committee before 25th March.
Next weekend's competition, 21 & 22 January, is pairs, 13 hole stableford off the white tees.

Entry is €5 and re-entry is €2 per person.
This weekend's competition (7 & 8 January) is 13 hole White Stableford. Entry is €5 and €2 re-entry.
Prizegiving will be held the last weekend of the month on Sunday 29 January @ 7pm.
