Earlier drawings I developed with a similar concept in mind—hands stretching eyelids—served as the inspiration for this piece. I find eyes and hands fascinating parts of human features, and have always enjoyed drawing them. It began with a sketch, before I picked up Gouache and began painting outward from the pupil. This was my first time using Gouache, and I discovered a lot about this medium in the process.
This painting represents the overwhelming feeling of having to focus on everything and everyone all at once. The weight of numerous responsibilities that are difficult to manage, along with having people who constantly want your attention. It can feel like you’re being ripped apart, straining to concentrate on what’s in front of you. When everything accumulates into one big amalgamation of work, it seems impossible to get any of it done.
