What is "Educational Justice"?
Educational Justice is the work surrounding advocacy for students at all levels. While many people have co-opted the idea, the heart of educational justice is putting students AND teachers first. Educational justice can take many forms but can be mostly seen as advocacy work. We practice a mix of advocacy and resource creation. Our goal here is to provide resources in the form of educational content that is helpful to our online community. We also produce content in the form of workshops and webinars to help our student community with college prep.
Why do we focus on Educational Justice?
Many students have been left behind in the educational system. When we say this, we mean it literally. Many students are not at the educational goals they want to be due to the lack of support and resources. That's where we come in! Our team has been left behind in a variety of ways. We use our experiences to empathize with our community, and to build resources that actually help!
How do I spot educational injustice?
In most cases, educational injustice takes the form of NOT putting the student FIRST. This could look like many things, including:
Not taking appropriate measures to ensure student safety and wellbeing. (including mental and physical health)
Not providing resources for students when mental health and safety crises occur. (including the current mental health crisis, and the school safety crisis)
Lack of funding for schools to provide modern resources to students.
Severe underpayment of teachers and educators. This also includes bad benefits and a lack of support/training.
Racism, sexism, homophobia, and more in the schools that IS NOT addressed.
Our goal is to accomplish TWO things:
FORM A COMMUNITY
PROVIDE FREE, HELPFUL RESOURCES
