Once upon a time, I was a girl who loved to cook and bake. My baking became pretty popular, and before long, I was baking for everyone I knew.
Then life happened. A head injury was followed by many health issues, and the baking stopped. Cooking became something I did only when necessary. Most of my recipes had never been written down, so many of them were lost along the way.
Fast forward many years, and I found myself at a point where depression had taken over. I decided to go back to the basics. I started trying recipes again, and little by little, I began making them my own. They weren’t exactly the same as before—maybe they were even better.
My physical limitations made me doubt myself more than ever. Mixing doughs became a workout! But slowly, I found myself back in the kitchen, making meals for friends with my husband by my side. He lifted the heavy pans, washed dishes when I could no longer stand, and even helped me remember what an ingredient was called.
Soon, I was getting compliments again. A friend told me I should create a business. I was flattered, but the reality was that I couldn’t do it alone. With a brain that no longer acts or reacts as quickly as it once did, I could no longer drive, and I knew I would need so much help.
I’ll spare you all the details, but eventually an amazing friend - Traci - quit her job and signed on to be all the things I couldn’t trust myself to be—the memory, the marketing, the business sense, and the person who checked and double-checked everything I might forget or overlook.
My husband, Todd, works all day, but he always comes home at night to help, clean, and do the heavy lifting.
That girl is me. I’m Amy.
Little by little, my incredible Crumb Crew has helped me develop recipes and create the Crumb Cottage for all of you to enjoy.
Every day is hard. Some days are nearly impossible. But I wasn’t put on this Earth to be less than myself, and baking is who I am.
With my incredible team beside me, maybe my dreams really can be reachable again someday.
Until then, we at Creative Crumb hope to see you soon at The Cottage!
