The Creative Combustion is proposing the design of a modular oxy-acetylene ablation test stand with quick-sample removal capabilities, expandable data collection hardware, and the mobility to test anywhere.
The test stand shall be made of modular aluminum extrusion. The footprint of this test stand is 24 inches (width) x 36 inches (length). This allows the belt-driven rail to deliver the specimen to within 1 inch of the oxy-acetylene torch in less than 1/2 a second. Additionally, there is a K-type thermocouple probe that must always contact the "cold face" of the specimen. The Specimen Holder is designed for quick sample removal and must have an unobstructed 4-inch x 4-inch footprint.
Two-stage regulators were chosen to increase the test stand's safety. Additionally, the two-stage regulators allow for a consistent flow of oxygen and acetylene gas. This allows to torch to burn at a consistent temperature. The test stand will be mounted on a carriage which is used for mobility and DAQ storage. Not pictured is some of the wiring and plumbing that make the test stand operational. However, there is plenty of room allocated for that purpose.
