The last decade of the 20th century caused a lot of turbulence in the established order of the world and South Asian Nations in particular. It was the last decade of the 20th century which has seen a lot of political, economic, social and cultural transformations at the world level, which also got reflected in Indian subcontinent. These transformations shook the very base of all what has been achieved in the 20th century itself. The binary of all the ideas, value system and nationality was challenged and a new world order and policies has been implemented. The New Liberal Economy propagated at this new churn has grasped the attention of all the nations and their people at large. By the beginning of 21st century, these new developments have changed the earlier life style and pattern in our country too, which slowly got reflected in our Social behavior, Language & Literature, Art practices, and Cultural values. Which is very much visible in our Modern Language, Literature, Performance, Image Creation, Cinematic Expressions, Visual Language and Culture.
Rampant commercialization of literary texts, Art Practices, Performances and our Culture as a whole is the dominant phenomenon at this new turn in the 21st century. This was the time when all these sacrosanct practices (Art Practices as a whole), which were known for their aesthetic, social, cultural and political values became a product for sale in the market. The success of these art forms or pieces were solely mapped on their salability and sale figures. Thus, from a piece of art it came down to the level of any other product launched by companies in the market. This phenomenon is very much visible in Indian Art practices in last two-three decades and they have become the dominant force which is regulating the Literary Texts and Art Practices of the country.
Intervention of new theories like Post-Modern and Post-Colonial have also brought a lot of change in practice of all sorts of literary texts and art forms at global level and in India in particular. These theoretical interventions open up and accommodate a lot more practices of the world including literature, languages, writing, performances and other art practices. Accommodation of all sorts of practices is a welcome pluralistic idea. They seem more inclusive in their pattern. Though, there are concerns about their agenda and particularly timing in which they have been thrown into the frame. It has a huge impact on Modern Indian Literature, Performances and Culture. We need to investigate it in the light of the creative practices and pieces it brought on floor. The seminar focus will be on India and SAARC Nations.
Our Conference titled ‘Contemporary Representation of Art, Theatre, Image & Visual Expressions (CREATIVE- 2024)’ opens up for the same. We invite 300 hundred words synopsis of the papers from researchers, art practitioners, literary persons and teaching community of the country and abroad (SAARC Nations) in following areas. These areas are specified not to limit but to open up the conference title and idea before you.
