Sweet Poison
The greatest charm of human life lies in its sincerity, truthfulness, and purity. Everything created by Nature for human sustenance and survival is free from adulteration and artificiality. However, it remains a tragedy of human history that as man progressed materialistically, he adulterated both his inner morality and his outer food. Just as a mere change of clothing or external appearance alters neither a person’s character nor their inner personality, food likewise loses its original utility and purity—no matter how attractive it is made through synthetic colors and chemicals.
Today, we live in an era where the purpose of trade and commerce is no longer to serve humanity, but solely to generate unrestricted profits. In this ruthless race of the corporate world, moral values are trampled upon to such an extent that even the most fundamental human need—food—is not spared. The chemicals used to give meals, beverages, and daily items an appealing look and artificial flavor may flatter the eyes and satisfy temporary cravings, but in reality, they act as a slow poison inside the human body.
Currently, the most alarming and critical issue is the reckless use of artificial sweeteners, such as Saccharin and similar chemical compounds, in food items. Saccharin is extremely cheap and many times sweeter than regular sugar. For this reason, large industrial corporations, beverage manufacturers, and food producers are replacing natural sugar with these synthetic sweeteners to cut production costs and multiply their profits. The general public is often unaware that the juices, soft drinks, or sweets they purchase with great delight are actually posing a severe threat to their health.
Medical research and disclosures by scientific experts paint a terrifying picture in this regard. Studies conducted by renowned universities and international health organizations worldwide have proven that the continuous consumption of artificial sweeteners and saccharin exposes the human body to various life-threatening diseases. These toxic chemicals not only promote fatal illnesses like cancer, but are also leading causes of diabetes, liver damage, kidney ailments, and intestinal infections. Furthermore, these synthetic substances gradually hollow out the human immune system, leaving the body incapable of fighting off even minor illnesses.
The saddest part of this tragedy is that the commercial world actively conceals the dangers of these products from the public. Through attractive packaging, aggressive marketing, and misleading labeling, the truth is masked. The average consumer, already overwhelmed with daily struggles and economic worries, buys these products without reading the ingredients in detail, unwittingly passing harm onto themselves and their families.
The true purpose of trade is to facilitate human life. However, when the sole objective of business becomes making money at the expense of public health, commercial activity transforms into a silent crime. In all dignified and civilized nations, the protection of public health carries the status of national security. Yet, where law enforcement is weak and market monitoring is nonexistent, corporations play with the minds and bodies of the people.
We must understand that unless we return to natural alternatives, simple food, fresh fruits, vegetables, and pure water, we cannot escape this wave of diseases. Consumers should attentively read product labels while shopping and choose items with minimal added salt, sugar, and synthetic chemicals. On the other hand, it is the responsibility of governments and regulatory bodies to take strict legal action against adulterators and companies selling harmful products. A healthy nation is the guarantor of progress—and a healthy nation can only be built on pure food and a clean environment.
