Deception
At the mere sound of the word "fragrance," a gentle, subtle, and soothing emotion awakens in the mind. The aroma of natural flowers, the earthy scent of soil after rain, the crisp air of lush green valleys, and the natural essence of herbs bestow refreshment upon the human mind and vitality upon the soul. Nature created fragrance for humanity as a source of comfort and mental tranquility. Since ancient times, humans have been enamored with fragrances, constantly striving to enrich their lives with essences derived from flowers and natural sources.
However, while the scientific and industrial advancements of the modern era have brought countless conveniences, they have also transformed this pure and delicate aspect of fragrance into a commercial chemical product. Most of the scents that surround us today no longer originate from natural flowers or herbs, but from synthetic chemicals and animal fats formulated in laboratories. Artificial fragrances are now used recklessly and extensively in soaps, perfumes, body sprays, air fresheners, detergents, washing powders, and even dishwashing liquids.
On the surface, these synthetic scents may flatter human senses and convey a false feeling of freshness. Yet, viewed through the lens of reality, these chemical fragrances bring more harm than benefit to human health. According to recent findings by medical experts and dermatologists, this indiscriminate use of artificial scents and detergents severely damages the human immune system. Consequently, skin and respiratory disorders—particularly various types of allergies—are developing into a global epidemic.
When we use soaps, shampoos, or laundry powders, the toxic chemicals contained within them attack the protective outer layer of our skin. As a result, the skin dries out, severe itching develops, and red patches or rashes appear on the body—a condition medically referred to as contact dermatitis or an allergic reaction. Similarly, fine chemical particles from room fresheners and perfumes inhaled into the body cause inflammation in the lungs and respiratory tract. This leads to persistent colds, sneezing, headaches, and sometimes chronic conditions such as asthma.
The saddest aspect of this tragedy is that the average person remains completely unaware that the beautiful perfume bottles, washing powders, and room sprays in their own homes are the root cause of their illnesses and those of their children. People suffer from allergies, visit doctors repeatedly, and consume expensive medications, yet they fail to recognize the underlying cause continuously present in their homes and daily products.
Industrial corporations and traders utilize synthetic chemicals for profit because extracting natural essences from real flowers is extremely costly and labor-intensive. In contrast, manufacturing artificial scents in a laboratory by mixing chemicals is simple and highly lucrative. The price for this commercial interest is ultimately paid by ordinary individuals with their health and well-being.
We must understand that there is no substitute for natural cleanliness and purity. To keep homes fresh, one should rely on natural ventilation rather than chemical-based air fresheners. Furthermore, we should choose soaps and washing powders free from synthetic chemicals and harsh fragrances. If allergic symptoms appear on the skin, the use of such chemical products should be discontinued immediately, and a physician should be consulted.
If we wish to safeguard our lives against allergies, respiratory illnesses, and other skin conditions, we must awaken from the illusion of the external and artificial appeal of these products. Embracing a natural lifestyle, moderation, and caution are the true paths toward leading a healthy and peaceful life.
