ABOUT US
Hi! My name is Wesley Sternberg! I'm currently a junior at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO! I was diagnosed with alopecia in highschool & ended up losing my all my hair in my freshman year of college. Growing up, I LOVED my red hair- it made me, me. Therefore, to try & regain something that meant so much to me, I decided to start looking into affordable wigs. I quickly came to find that not only were wigs uncomfortable, didn't come in red hair, but were also very expensive. This is because insurance companies classify wigs as "cosmetic necessities" not "medical necessities" for patients with alopecia. Therefore, I started creating my own wigs in hats freshman year.
At first, I started by making several wigs in my dorm room just to wear to the gym and class to avoid the common stares & questions. The wigs not only looked realistic, but most of all were comfortable. Within the next few months, I saw the opportunity to make wigs for other teenagers also undergoing any form of hair loss, primarily those diagnosed with alopecia or undergoing chemotherapy. As time went on, I knew I wanted to be able to provide wigs for girls & women reaching farther outside my community. Therefore, why I started my non-profit, Creating Sunshine.
My 3 younger sisters, Cameron, Tyler, & Tate are the biggest supporters in my life. Along with stories of girls battling hair loss through alopecia, chemotherapy, etc; my sisters are who inspire me the most. With they're endless love and support, they're what make Creating Sunshine possible.
