This site was developed by Kyla Craven for a Masters of Science in Information Technology course at Kennesaw State University. The purpose of this site is to create an effective IT Professional’s Toolkit for delivering effective IT strategy, policy, and governance using industry-accepted IT tools and services.
An IT Professional is someone who earns a living using computers and the internet of things and is responsible for their continued functionality in order to produce value for others or the organizations through which they are employed. IT Professionals typically follow known IT best practices and align their strategy, policy, and governance actions with an industry accepted code of professional ethics.
My current definitions of IT Strategy, IT Policy, and IT Governance are:
IT Strategy - a repetitive process that aims to align IT capability with business requirements and thus creates shareholder value.
IT Policy - is a set of systematic guidelines that provide a path to achieve IT goals.
IT Governance – According to Kennesaw State University’s IT7833 course material, “IT governance processes are used by the organization to measure and ensure IT contributes to organizational value with minimal cost, continuous improvement and controlled risks.” [17]
My definitions of these concepts will impact my practice of the IT Profession by influencing how I perceive them, their scope, and their meaning. The guidelines that I recommend for formulating effective strategy, policy, and governance of IT include thoroughly conducted research into each of these areas and how they support business goals and contribute to business value.
