Dr. Brianne Borden,

Moderator

Dr. Brianne Borden is a trumpet player and Visiting Assistant Professor of Trumpet at SUNY Potsdam and member of the Potsdam Brass Quintet. As an entrepreneur, Brianne currently acts as co-owner and CEO of a virtual yoga studio, Yoga for All Musicians, catering specifically to the physical and emotional needs of musicians. Brianne has published multiple articles and developed workshops on ways to incorporate wellness into a musician's lifestyle in order to counteract repetitive motion injuries, battle performance anxiety, and maintain a sustainable music career.

Karen Cubides

Panelist

Karen Cubides is the passionate and engaging founder and CEO of the Karen Cubides Agency based in Nashville, Tennessee. As CEO of KCA and as an avid educator, Karen is a frequent lecturer on arts marketing and branding, appearing at the New England Conservatory, the Colburn School, the Curtis Institute of Music, Vanderbilt University, and Boston Conservatory, among other institutions. One of her greatest passions is serving young professionals as they navigate the tumultuous transition from student musician to professional artist. Karen created the Emerging Artists Program within KCA to meet this end. Karen is also the founder and host of The Musician’s Guide to being Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise.

Erica Fagundes

Currently, Erica handles Music Partnerships at Community.com, a platform allowing artists instant and direct communication with their fans through text messaging. She is also the founder of The Lady Pact, a community empowering womxn to reach their full potential through education, mentorship, and community engagement. She serves as an advisor to WithOthers, a platform connecting activists to audiences interested in getting involved through intimate music events. In her free time, you can catch her hiking, drinking wine, and teaching piano & voice.

Samantha Lane

Samantha is the Director of Sales and Marketing for the S.E. Shires Company (a premiere brass instrument manufacturer) and has been involved with the S.E. Shires Company and Eastman Music Company since 2012. As the Director of Sales and Marketing, Samantha is responsible for actively growing the company’s sales, marketing reach, Artist Relations program, and research and development. Samantha currently lives in Rhode Island with her husband and daughter.

Becky Ludkiewicz

Becky Ludkiewicz is a Senior Consultant at Capacity Interactive, Digital Marketing Consulting for the Arts. In her six+ years with CI, she has collaborated with more than 70 non-profit arts organizations spanning numerous genres and budget sizes. She previously worked for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and received her BA in Music Management and MBA with a specialization in Arts Administration from the University of Delaware

Lexa Black

Panelist

Currently the Manager of Artistic Planning with The Phoenix Symphony, Lexa manages all phases of the artistic planning activities for TPS, which encompasses over 150 concerts in a given season. From Classics to Pops, Beethoven to Beatles, Lexa is well-versed in all symphonic concert offerings. Additionally, Lexa has held roles with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and San Antonio Symphony. Prior to 2014, Lexa interned with the premier performing arts management company, IMG Artists, in the vocal division at their London office.

David Coons • Guest Speaker

David Coons will be joining our class to discuss his career path, passions and Oboe reed making! Having worked at Jones Double Reeds Immediately after having graduated from Crane, David gained valuable experience in the Music products industry. David is now working on his Master's of Music in oboe performance at Northern Illinois University, where he performs in ensembles and teaches private lessons.

David also operates his business, Reeds Doubled, in which he designs and sells double reed themed apparel and accessories.


Through building his brand, David fulfilled a need for a creative outlet, while creating something he had not seen in the double reed industry--an inclusive space for musicians to find quality products with thoughtful design.

Hallie Hugues • Guest Speaker

Hallie Hugues graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 2014 with a bachelor’s in business administration, minor in music business. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Southern California for an internship with the Customer Engagement Group of Yamaha Corporation of America and was then hired as a Marketing Specialist for the Band and Orchestral Division. In 2019, she was moved to the Brand Administration team and was later promoted to Senior Events Specialist in 2020. Currently, she supports the Brand’s Events team, Social Media team, and the Customer Market Insights team.

Julia Morton• Guest Speaker

Julia has been a fundraiser for the arts for the past decade working at major institutions including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Carnegie Hall, OPERA America, and the Cincinnati Ballet. Today she is a Major Gift Officer at Columbia University where she’s responsible for raising 6- and 7-figure gifts for the Arts and Sciences.

Julia received her MA/MBA in Arts Administration from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and her BA in Music and English Literature from Florida State University.

Outside of the office, she serves on the Board of Trustees for Spark Movement Collective. When she’s not fundraising, you can find her doing ballet, running, visiting museums, and trying new pasta recipes.

Steve Mucciolo• Guest Speaker

Steve Mucciolo started at D'Addario Strings as an intern in 2009 while attending the Crane School of Music. Using this experience, and others offered by Crane, he landed a job as Fretted Product Specialist, developing and launching new strings worldwide. In 2018, he was promoted to Global Business Development Manager for the Accessories brand, traveling to over 15 countries and getting in-market experience to better develop and implement strategies to increase market share, new product adoption, and product awareness.

In 2021, he was promoted to Global Insights Manager, using his past experience as a foundation to analyze, optimize, and continually test paid media strategies, grow D'Addario's loyalty program - Players Circle, and "connect the dots" between all of D'Addario's global sales and marketing efforts.

John Wittmann is Senior Director of Artist Relations and Education for Yamaha Corporation of America. He is responsible for organizing educational programs and support for Yamaha Artists both nationally and internationally. Holding two degrees in music, John was a band director in New York State where he headed two highly successful High School music programs. John has toured extensively and has given hundreds of drum set clinics. He is an active performer, clinician and lecturer and has been published in many magazines. John is a strong music advocate and a frequent presenter at NAMM, PASIC, and other major music conferences.

PMBC Conference

Potsdam Music Business Club is hosting a Student Led Spring Conference on March 13th from 12-5pm. This conference hosts a variety of alumni from the industry including places such as Epic Records, a division of Sony, Houston Symphony, and Buffet Crampon. PMBC is an active club on campus that works to promote musicians, entrepreneurship, and fills in general gaps in the curriculum to prepare the students best for the music industry. Brick and Mortar Music is providing a door prize for students who come and stay until the end!

John Angier

John Angier will be joining our class to discuss career paths in music as a freelancer.


John Angier is a composer/ arranger who writes music for Film and TV. He's been nominated for a Canadian Gemini, an Annie Award and has won an Emmy Award for his score to the childrens show Bubble Guppies. He's works with Academy Award winning Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz as a studio engineer, arranger and producer.


He studied classical piano and Jazz at The Crane School of Music where he discovered a love for composing, and a love for electronic music. He continued this while doing a Masters in Music Technology and film music at NYU.

She’s from Buffalo, New York originally and had a 4 year stint in New York City before re-locating to Los Angeles in 2017. Michele is a self proclaimed Buffalo Bills fanatic (#billsmafia) and has a cat named Iggy (named after Iggy Pop, not Azalea.)

Today, he runs Cadence Independent Media, a consultancy focused on social marketing strategy and content creation for brands within the music industry and beyond.

Jarritt Ahmed Sheel

Jarritt Sheel is an assistant professor of music education at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He is also a fifth year doctoral candidate at Teachers College, Columbia University in the Music and Music Education Department. As a professional musician, he has toured internationally, worked with hundreds of students in high school band programs throughout the great states of Illinois, Florida and New York.

He has been fortunate to have taught music courses at the Aspen Award winning Valencia College, New York University (NYU), and has taught collegiate level courses, based on Critical Theory, Art History, and Democracy, in the CUNY system. He is a past Ensemble Director for the Youth Workshop Band in the Youth Programs as part of the Education department at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. He has recently accepted a faculty position at the Berklee College of Music in music education.

His research foci center around the hip-hop movement (music, culture, and pedagogies) in music Education and teacher training. He is a co-founder of the music resource website hiphopmusiced.com, and leader of a social media dialogue around #hiphopmusiced. Samantha is the Project Lead for multiple product divisions integrated marketing campaigns and Key Agency Client Lead, providing support for internal clients and external partners.
