This page is just to share some of my cover art.
I don't profess to be an artist, or even very good, but I enjoy art and it means that I can try to get some of my characters out there in a different form. I'm basically just my own fan artist. How sad :D
My first watercolour painting was supposed to be a practice, using the upcoming Shuck as inspiration. I knew that I wanted to do a series of Shuck related images so getting some practice seemed like a good idea.
However, I ended up loving this first painting so much that I used it on the Shuck cover.
This one was a huge experiment and a lovely accident at the same time. Not only am I colour blind so I was totally winging the colours, but how the watercolours mixed together on the background actually came out really cool.
And because I'm a lunatic, I then decided to try acrylics. This was my first effort at acrylics (which I enjoyed just as much as watercolours) and it was a VERY different learning curve.
I've had this image of Emi in my head for a very long time but with no way of conveying it accurately. It's obviously inspired by the opening chapter where Christopher finds her in the barn.
I wanted Emi to look as angelic as possible here. It's not an accurate representation of how she looks in the book, with her being undead for 500 years and all, but more how Christopher sees her.
I wanted it to be an enticing image so I could use it for the cover.
