Dr. Di Fu (Chinese name: 傅迪 or 付迪, Di pronounces as "Dee", which means "enlightenment and inspiration" in Chinese; she guesses this is why she is so enthusiastic about human minds and intelligence) is an assistant professor (UK Lecturer) at the Department of Psychology, University of Surrey. She is the director of the Digital Intelligence for Future Users (DIFU) Lab. She works at the intersection of cognitive science, AI, and robotics, developing embodied agents that learn human social attention and are evaluated in human-robot cooperation to drive impact in education, healthcare, and eldercare.
Dirk van Rooy is a Professor at the Centre for Responsible AI and Faculty of Design Sciences at the University of Antwerp, specializing in human-machine interaction, behavioral science and cognitive ergonomics. His research focuses on trust calibration, explainability, decision-making in complex sociotechnical environments and the ethics of AI systems. He collaborates across disciplines to support the development of responsible, human-centered AI, and has contributed to defense-related research initiatives in Europe, the United States, and Australia.
Dr. Doreen Jirak obtained her diploma degree and doctorate in Informatics from University of Hamburg, Germany. Her research interests include neurally-inspired machine learning models, deep learning, and their application in (social) human-robot interaction with focus on nonverbal communication like gestures.
She is currently a senior researcher at the Department of Product Development, University of Antwerp, where she studies human factors and explainable AI (XAI) in maritime automatization processes.
Prior to joining Antwerp University, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Genova, Italy, where she collaborated in international and EU projects, and teaching&research associate at the Knowledge Technology Group in Hamburg, Germany.
