Who is TowelBoy?
Hi, My name is Mike aka Towelboy (don't ask me how I got the pseudonym) I'm 47, I've got 2 kids 6 and 11 (fun n games) and I love anything and everything to do with Homebrewing or Craft Beer. I first got into Homebrewing in the Summer of 2012 after watching some 'how to' videos on YouTube, I've been influenced by a vast variety of Homebrewers...Gash Slugg, Timeforanother, CraigTube, SJ Porr and Steve and James from Basic Brewing just to name a few. So what was my first exposure to making beer and spirits? I'm glad you asked, as a child i grew up watching reruns of M*A*S*H and the old Gin Still that Hawkeye and Trapper John built in The Swamp fascinated me. It absolutely blew my mind that it was possible to create alcohol by just using water, yeast and a bit of chemistry. Fast forward 30 years and i decided to brew my first homebrew...it was a disaster, but eventually after much study i learnt about the importance of sanitation, water chemistry, the right yeast to use and hop isomeration. Although I haven't quite got the set up like some brewers i.e.: HERMS and a 3-vessel system, I eventually graduated to All Grain Brewing around 2018 and produced my first batch (An Australian Pale Ale that turned out amazing!) and haven't looked back since!
