Introduction
While the open southern border is admitting hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants per month, the same old tired talking points and excuses that have been used for a decade continue on. The biggest excuse is that the Republicans will not pass “comprehensive immigration reform,” which as explained below is no reform at all, but codifying the open-border policies into law.
If the laws on the books were enforced and the federal government was not enticing and allowing the entire world to abuse our asylum laws, there would be no problems with illegal immigration.
Myth: Congress needs to pass “comprehensive immigration reform” to fix our immigration system.
Fact: The current immigration laws are mostly adequate to control the border if they were actually enforced, which they are not when Democrats hold power. There are some loopholes that need to be addressed, such as asylum laws and birthright citizenship, but these will never be addressed as long as Democrats have the power to stop it. Comprehensive immigration reform is just a euphemism for amnesty and is a total con.
Fact: If the Democrats proposed serious legislation to fix the loopholes in the illegal immigration laws, the Republicans would vote 100% for that. On the other hand, when the Republicans propose serious legislation, they cannot get a single Democrat vote.
At the heart of “comprehensive immigration reform” is amnesty for those illegally in the country. This would eventually give citizenship and voting rights to the tens of millions of illegal immigrants already in the country in exchange for the easily broken “promise” of stronger border security in the future. Since these new citizens would be indebted to the Party that promoted their amnesty, it is clear why amnesty legislation is the only solution supported by the Democrats. While this would be considered a “fix” by our Democrat politicians, it would be a disaster for America.

The little secret is that the Border laws can simply be ignored or abused by future Democrat administrations, just as they are ignored and abused by the Biden administration. This same type of bait and switch was used in 1986 to allow amnesty for illegal immigrants already in the country in exchange for tough laws against employers hiring illegal immigrants. The amnesty was granted, but the laws were loosely enforced at best. These laws are only as effective as the people enforcing them, and these laws have been ignored for decades.

While most Republicans recognize the crisis, nearly every Democrat demagogues the issue, demeans Republicans and/or insists on “legal pathways,” which is just a euphemism for unchecked immigration. The U.S. already has a system for legal immigration and temporary work visas to fill the worker shortages where needed. However, this is not what Democrats are really after, but instead are promoting amnesty and citizenship for tens of millions of illegal immigrants who they believe will vote for them.

Here is gaslighting on steroids as the ranking member (Democrat) tries to blame the border crisis (started on day one of the Biden administration) on Republicans. Gaslighting and misdirection is what the Democrats do in every open border hearing. Ditto with the statements from Biden’s Press Secretary.

Fact: People who are uneducated and dependent on government will almost 100% vote for Democrats. Therefore, by importing tens of millions of poor immigrants, putting them on the welfare rolls, providing them free education and healthcare and eventually giving them citizenship and voting rights, the Democrats are guaranteeing themselves a huge future voting bloc. In addition, even if these migrants do not get voting rights, they are counted in the census, which determines the number of representatives per state.
So, if a “sanctuary” state like California can pump up their population count, they can get more Democrats into the House of Representatives, which is currently at a thin margin. From every angle Illegal immigration is a sole benefit to Democrats.

The Border Wall
Myth: A border wall is ineffective and is too expensive.
Fact: A border wall is not a 100% effective deterrent, but that is not the point. It is a significant enough deterrent to allow the undermanned Border Patrol to utilize other technologies, e.g., drones, and deal with the few who do get through. The cost of the border wall is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost to the U.S. taxpayer of illegal immigration, not to mention when compared to the titanic U.S. budget.
There are walls all over the world that work, so to say that it is as simple as putting up a taller ladder is pure propaganda. Of course, a wall would not be necessary at all of our federal officials would simply enforce the existing immigration laws and pass new laws to fix ongoing problems like birthright citizenship. $15 billion was the estimated cost for the border wall. To put this in perspective, that is about 0.21% of the bloated $7 trillion federal budget and would cost around $100 per taxpayer. This cost is the equivalent of a person who makes $100,000 per year spending $214 (less than the cost of one month of cable TV). The same people (Democrats) who pretend that this a cost issue have no problem with leaving tens of $billions of military equipment in Afghanistan, funneling $100s of billions to Ukraine or passing multi-$trillion bills for green-energy giveaways. And finally, this analysis from 2017 shows that stopping 200,000 border crossers would pay for the wall. To put that in perspective, at the end of 2023 there were 300,000 unlawful entries PER MONTH!

Myth: The United States can make a dent in world poverty and oppression by bringing those people to this country.
Fact: With billions of people across the globe facing these problems, migration to the United States can never possibly even make a tiny dent. However, it can destroy the structure and social fabric of the United States. The problem must be fixed at the source where these people live.

Myth: Birthright citizenship is a constitutionally granted right in the United States.
Fact: So far, the courts have upheld this birthright; however, there are many constitutional scholars who disagree, and with good reason. The 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868 to protect the rights of native-born Black Americans, whose rights were being denied as recently-freed slaves. It was clearly never intended for the purpose of granting citizenship to the baby of a mother from anywhere in the world, including adversarial countries, who has no allegiance to the United States. The 14th Amendment reads in part: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.
The wording in question is “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” Regardless of wording, the Constitution was written long before the United States became an easily accessible welfare state. There should be little doubt that when the 14th Amendment was ratified that the authors could not possibly have envisioned a time when a pregnant woman could cross into the United States from Mexico, go to a hospital to have her baby delivered for free, and then be rewarded with U.S. citizenship, welfare, free education, free healthcare and then anchor the entire family in the United States forever. Therefore, just as the asylum laws are being gamed and abused, so is birthright citizenship. And remember, these laws are interpreted by politicized courts and then held as established law for decades, if not forever. There is no black and white when it comes to this issue, but the interpretation we have now could not possibly have been the intent. As with all immigration issues, the Democrats see voters and votes, so are for it. The Republicans see rigging the system and perverse incentives, so they are against it.
