Chris is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 37 years experience in the construction industry. He has worked on a wide variety of projects with values ranging from £10,000 to over £400 million. These have involved many different procurement routes with various forms of contract including JCT/SBCC, ICE and NEC. These projects have included carrying out the roles of principal quantity surveyor, project manager, employer's agent, contractor/sub-contractor's surveyor, estimator, claims advisor and technical auditor.
Throughout his career, Chris has embraced information technology and used it to complement his traditional QS skills. He has been using Microsoft Excel for over 32 years and, using its advanced features and VBA programming, has developed a number of templates to improve efficiency and accuracy in carrying out many typical QS related tasks. He also has experience of using computerised billing software.
In 2004, Chris compiled the National Housing Maintenance Schedule (Version 2) for NSR Management Ltd (www.nsrm.co.uk) which is for use on measured term contracts and is based on the National Schedule of Rates widely used throughout the UK by local authorities, housing associations, contractors and insurance companies.
Chris also has experience of university lecturing and, during 2008-2009, he assisted on a part-time basis at Glasgow Caledonian University.
