The cosmology team at the CPT includes researchers with expertise in Cosmology, General Relativity and Quantum Field Theory, which collaborate on national and international projects with theorists, cosmologists, astronomers, astrophysicists, and particle physicists.
Over the past fifteen years, the influx of high-quality data has transformed cosmology into a dynamic field, offering opportunities to test and challenge predictions from various areas of fundamental physics. This has led to significant discoveries, such as the acceleration of the universe's expansion and the detection of elusive phenomena like gravitational waves.
Our research focuses on understanding the large-scale structure of the universe, revealing the nature of dark energy, and testing the foundations of the cosmological model. Additionally, we are integrating gravitational wave astronomy with cosmology to explore the universe in new and complementary ways.
With over fifty permanent researchers spread across 8 teams and 3 research groups, the CPT is the largest French laboratory in theoretical physics.
Since 2004, the Centre de Physique Théorique (CPT) has been a joint research unit of CNRS. It is a multi-institutional UMR (Joint Research Unit) involving CNRS, Aix-Marseille University, and the University of Toulon.
The CPT is located at the Campus de Luminy, in Marseille, set in a peaceful natural environment, surrounded by trees and near the stunning Parc national des Calanques. This beautiful setting offers the ideal environment for scientific research and collaboration.
