About

Sigma Tau Delta is a CPP student club for English majors and anyone who loves reading, writing, and language.

Club activities include open mic nights, short story and poetry contests, nerdy word games, writing workshops, learning from English & Modern Languages faculty, and more.

Faculty interact with students in an informal setting. presenting papers written for conferences, sections of their published books, and even outside texts not normally covered in classes. Meetings are also themed based on specific genres, authors, book-based movies, other topics. Writing contests, held once a semester, give students the opportunity to write creatively outside of the academic realm and prizes are awarded to the winners. We also have our own literature magazine, Portfolio, which is produced annually featuring texts from students, as well as teachers. These opportunities for communication, creativity and external learning allow for a strong social network that leads to strong bonds and great opportunities. “Sigma Saturdays” are events planned outside of school that include plays, movies, readings, and area destinations. More information at https://mybar.cpp.edu/organization/sigmataudelta.

Sigma Tau Delta is also an international honor society.

Eligible students are invited to join the international honor society, which holds an annual convention (where CPP students have presented their creative and analytical work -- and we plan to keep the tradition going). International honor society members also have the opportunity to publish their writing in the organization's literary publication, The Rectangle, and compete for writing awards, academic scholarships, professional internships, and teaching awards. More information at https://www.english.org/.

At the campus and international levels, students have the opportunity to build community and to network with students, faculty, and professionals who care about language, literature, and writing.
