The Cal Poly Pomona Student Security Operations Center (SOC) is a project under the Cyber Security Instructional Research Project (CSIRP) initiative at Cal Poly Pomona, which aims to provide students and faculty with space and resources for research in cybersecurity. The Student SOC and the Student Malware Analysis Lab (MAL) are the first two projects established under the CSIRP and are jointly advised by Dr. Mohammad Husain and Dr. Ron Pike. Substantial involvement by a student in these projects can also lead to academic credits through supervised study or as senior projects in the CS and CIS departments.
The Student SOC and the Student MAL were created with generous support from Northrop Grumman Corporation and are cross-disciplinary initiatives in which students from all backgrounds are highly encouraged to participate.
The Student SOC has three main objectives:
Carlos is a fourth-year Computer Science student at Cal Poly Pomona. He became interested in pursuing a career in information security after playing CyberPatriot in high school, and has done work interning for Cal Poly Pomona in IT Security & Compliance, researching rapid incident response leveraging integrations between SDN and SIEM platforms as part of an NSF REU. He is always seeking a way to provide resources, advice, and opportunities in information security for other students.
Karanbir ("K") is a third-year Computer Information Systems student at Cal Poly Pomona. He spends his time tinkering on cars, computers, and sometimes does security.
