Design Type L-2 consists of two off-ramps, and two entrance loop ramps. We used figures 504.2A Single Lane Freeway Entrance, 504.2B Single Lane Freeway Exit, and 504.3D Restrictive Condition Freeway Entrance Loop Ramp Metering (1 GP Lane) to make the layout design type L-2 (Source: Caltrans Highway Design Manual Chapter 500 - July 1, 2020)

North on ramp vertical alignment.
Vertical clearance for the freeway shall be 18.5 ft above the local street. Minimum grades should be 0.3 percent at non snow locations.
Using Caltrans HDM Table 204.3 for level terrain and urban highways, grade for vertical alignment is in range of 0.3 to 6 %

The Synchro Simulation (right) shows traffic flow of the design. This design wasn't altered much from the Micro Station design but the few alterations made were done to show more consideration of the existing structures and roads. One road that had to be altered was Kendall Drive (bottom left road that cuts through the open field). This road was originally closer to the I-215 and the South bound off ramp is now located there. This design shows the option of moving Kendall over and creating a new intersection for it. In other designs we show Kendall Drive and Industrial Parkway merging to become one street.
The design of ramp metering system for west bound on ramp and west bound loop is based on Caltrans Ramp Metering Design Manual. They will both have a pull box, signal controller cabinet, luminaire, and a signal head.
West bound one-ramp will consist of three demand detectors, one passage detector, four mainline detectors, and one queue detector.
Similarly, to the design of the westbound on-ramp, the loop will also have one queue detector, three demand detectors, four mainline detectors, and one passage detector.

Type L-2 West Bound On-Ramp drainage design has a total of 4 drainage subareas with each marked with the drainage system ID. The area and longitudinal slope of each subarea can be seen in the data collection table. The design plan shows the water flow direction, subarea boundary, as well as the inlets.
West bound on-ramp temporary water pollution control plan for Type L-2 interchange has a stabilized construction entrance/exit surrounded by fiber rolls and wood mulching. It was designed to have 4 storm drain inlets evenly spaced on the ramp.
