Zagreb: quiet (and safe) but lively capital of Croatia
Croatia has not yet adopted EUR currency. The local currency is called kuna (HRK). Relatively stable exchange of 1 HRK (croatian kuna) = 0.13 EUR, i.e. 1 EUR = 7.4 HRK . HRKs can be obtained directly via ATM or from EUR via many exchange offices (mjenjačnica). More or less everywhere (shops, restaurants, bars, ...) in the center you can pay by credit/debit cards. Kiosk and small shops around main square should also accept cards to buy small item such bus tickets.
Croatia is in EU but not fully in Schengen area, however non-EU citizens having Schengen visa can visit Croatia without problem. If you have doubt please email at: cpic.11.zagreb@gmail.com
Mobile roaming including data is perfectly working as every other UE country.
For people arriving by plane. Airport ZAG is located approx 15km south-east of center. It is connected to the center

>>> googlemaps works fine for navigation in the city
Institute Ruđer Bošković campus is located on one of the hills at the north of the Zagreb and it is very well connected to the city center via buses directed to Kaptol (the Cathedral area, a couple of minutes away from the main square) and to Kvaternikov Trg. The area around IRB is called Šalata, and it is one of the nicest part of the city; along north direction toward Mirogoj monumental cemetery and the Medvenica Natural park.
Zagreb has a good public transportation network consisting of trams and buses, managed by ZET. The center is generally well connected, but reaching periphery or "Novi Zagreb" can be time consuming. Googlemaps works very well for suggesting indications and routes according to public transportation.
Uber platform is also working fine in Zagreb.
Zagreb has several remarkable monuments, museums and spot to visit.
Three restaurants in the center or close to it (dinner on Thursday, dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday). See below.
Lunch (Friday 31.01) will be free for participants and served at the "typical" cafeteria of the institute, 2' away from the lecture room.
Coffee break will be served at the side of the lecture room.
